How to farm for 10x Gemsteel. This is a required ingredient for two of the game's strongest weapons - Kumbha (1 handed Katana) and Tourensol (Greatsword).
For each Gemsteel you will require:
2 x Damascus Steel
2 x Hell-Gate's Flame
1 x Scarletite
You need 5 Gemsteel to craft both weapons although you get one from Montblanc after recruiting eight Espers. This video is solely focused on attaining the Gemsteel but keep an eye out for future episodes for the weapons.

Final Fantasy 12 was first released way back in 2006 on the PS2. At the time, it was considered somewhat controversial by many Final Fantasy fans due to its departure from traditional FF gameplay. However, it is now looked back on fondly and many would consider Final Fantasy XII to be the best entry in the franchise. In 2007 the International Zodiac edition was released (in Japan only), and this version of the game included a more traditional job-based system and a new battle areana. For this remastered release, these additional changes are being brought to us fans in the West for the first time ever - along with high resolution textures and remastered soundtrack!

I just started Zodiac Age but I recall from the PS2 you only need 3 Gemsteels. But the trick is you need to have ALL ingredients for both weapons. Sell them all at the same time and your 3 Gemsteels will also check the 2 Gemsteels requirement.

For the Damascus Steel, it's quicker to run to The Feywood than it is running all the way up the mountain. For the Hell's Gate Flame, Monograph drops are not part of the chain loot table, so it's better to NOT chain them together. The higher the chain level, the less likely you are to get the Monograph drop. For the Scarletite, it's better to run from Echoes of the Past, into The Slumbermead, into Succor Midst Sorrow, and into Lifeless Strand and then run back to the Echoes. There's two additional Emeralditans in The Slumbermead thus making your trips more efficient.

Chain drops are independent of the monographs. It does not matter if you have a chain or not.

3 of the Gemsteel - the idea is, if you have every single ingredient for both Tournesol and Khumba (which would be 3-Gemsteel, 3-Orichalcum, 3-Empyreal Soul, 3-Serpentarius, and 2-Mallet...and you sell all those items, one after the other, in a single "bazaar session", when you back out from the Sell menu and see "New Bazaar items are available !" - when you check Bazaar, at that point, you will see BOTH Khumba and Tournesol there for purchase. The game counts your 3-Gemsteels as "going towards both" of the recipes, because you sold everything in one go.) Handy !

A bit faster method for getting Damascus Steels, same as with Scarletite: kill enemies to spawn Anchag, steal the Damascus Steel (don't kill it), go to the Save Crystal and Anchor zone (you're zoning twice), head back and repeat.

Don't do double zone follow the instruction fuzz give it won't respawn other wise. Cause I tried to double zone it in killing the enemies doesn't work for double zone u literally got to leave that map.

For the Scarletite, I used a path from Echoes of The Past > Slumbermead > Hope's Reach and back. Got 4 in about 25 minutes. Hit 40 streak, so approximately 1 every 10 kills.

You don't have to run all the way to Mt. Bur-Omisace. Running there you already went 3 zones. I just turned right back after exiting the Frozen Brook area.

There's more than 1 emeralditan in Nabreus deadlands, 1 or more north and 1 or more south, in the same zone seperated by a bridge.

Very good guide but I prefer to get the Gemsteel from the Level 99 Red Chocobo. Even with the Stone method it takes a while (though it is possible for it to spawn within 10 minutes or less if you're very lucky) but it's worth the time and effort because defeating it guarantees you a Ribbon and it has a 90% chance of it dropping a Gemsteel (with Knight Monograph) and a 90% chance of a High Arcana (with Canopic Jar). You can also steal Elixirs/Megalixirs from it and possibly, if you're really lucky, an Empyreal Soul). Much quicker than any other method I find, at least by comparison to finding/creating all the ingredients separately. Last night I manage to get 3 ribbons, 3 Gemsteels and 2 High Arcanas consecutively from the Level 99 Red Chocobo.

@@kieranhines7890 Sorry for the late reply but yes it does. It won't spawn at all until Reddas joins the party but after that you can get it to spawn at any time for as many times as you like even once Reddas is no longer in the party, it just might take a while.

I think its much faster to get Damascus Steel from Bluesang in Cerobi Steppe. Join the hunt club to have him spawn in a certain area (near some windmills) then Steal from him. Run away from him to change zone (its right next to him) to get an auto save and reload save (or run away two zones). Go back in and steal again, he spawns 40% of the time and always in the same spot. Its important not to kill him since he's a Trophy Rare Game and stay dead once killed!!

I second this - Fuzz, the Bluesang method is outrageously fast. As insanepolarbear points out, you simply steal from him - run back to the save crystal zone, and then just past it (since it's a tiny zone just with the crystal and a Strahl anchor point) and then you've "zoned twice" and turn immediately round' and go back to Bluesang, to steal again. Far quicker than having to slay all 12 enemies in Karadyne each time, and then wait for the stealing to be successful from Anchag, etc. Both methods work - don't get us wrong - I just think if you have Bluesang still available in your games, then people would be better served / faster to use him :-)

You can actually just zone to the feywood and back it takes a very short time and it's much closer.

You could also just go to Cerobi Steppe,go to the blue save crystal/anchor and farm damascus steel at the "crossover" on the map. Bluesang spawns between two pillars and can steal damascus steels much faster. The save crystal is one zone and theres another zone that hugs the save zone. Cross into that zone and then back two, all in one motion and its the fastest spawn/farm. Its also right in the same area as the tortoise, just the neoghboring zone.

The Damascus Steel is also dropped from the same headless enemy type in the Pharos. Think its more of a rarer drop can also be poached.

Only advice I say is the monograph for the hells gate one. Could have said it beforehand spent a good hour trying to get them to learn I'm missing an item but thank you for at least mentioning it no other channel mentioned that part after I got it was done with that step in about 30 mins

To get the Scarletite I went back and forth from the save crystal to Echoes of the past as you can also pass another turtle in The Slumbermead area. I also used steal, have no idea if this helped but I got 4 scarletites in 30 minutes..

Quickest way to farm Damascus steel is Bluesang. Cerobbi steppe I think it is. Steal from it, 2 zones, come back, steal again. took me about 15 minutes to get 8.

Damascus Steel can be obtained by stealing from Bluesang upon starting the Phon Coast Hunt Club, easy to make him spawn, and reset the game every time you steal but don't kill Bluesang if you want more Damascus... you know how it works, steal, flee, change zone, reset, find Bluesang again, steal, feel, reset as much as you need

For anyone trying to do this currently: I would suggest stealing scarletite from Aspidochelon. It's much faster than the other method. For the hell's-gate flame there really is no fast method. You definitely want the Hunter's Monograph, and I know Fuzz said chaining doesn't matter but I used that method. Even if it makes no difference for the drop rate this at least gives you a visual progress-cue which helps with not getting frustrated. Just turn off your attack gambits and manually kill both wolf-type enemies you see in the area--your chain will start building. I got my first flame around chain level 95 and the last one I needed around 350. Good luck!

If you teleport to Dalmasca Estersand and play the fishing game you can get the starletite needed for tournesol and kumbha much faster than the turtle. Takes about an hour to finish and then ~20 minutes to get scarletite from the best fishing spot AND you get adamantite at the same time.

A bit of advice for some. To actually get the Cerberus to start dropping hells gate flame you have to have a chain of at least 3 started. So what I did was put vaan up and did his attacking manually then put Fran gambit as hp status = critical and then attack and I used ashe for no attacks but up as a poach every so often if Cerberus was not dropping and it seemed to even out on acquiring the hells gate. Got all 10 within probably 20 to 30 mins. Also I just zoned out through the area of the save crystal and that seemed to reset the enemies well.

Steal from the "Bluesang" in Cerobi Steppe / Crossfield. easy 2 zone clear and 40% spawn, just steal from it. In the next episode in the series he shows where it is. But I was averaging 1 min runs for the Damascus Steel item. It was crazy fast. I had 10 in 15 mins on X4.

Thank you for the insight. First time playing zodiac age and so much is different ESPECIALLY farming Dalmascus Steel. If I could make a suggestion? Instead of killing Anchag and having to go through those mechanics, I've just been stealing. Once I have the Steel, there is an exit in the north western most part of that area. Exit that, then head kind of south west for the exit to the feywood. Then go back the way you came, clear the area and there is Anchag again. I do have to admit, I feel like this way is messing with gambit a tad more, but with speed up turned on I find myself saving lots of time. Not that your method is bad or anything by any means, just thought I would share that

Great vid again but I'm an expert at the old ps2 version and your right about cerebus but if you equip Baan say,with the water sword massamarasa gambits to foe water weak they the Cerberus will only be attacked get penelo ideally ,to equip Excalibur foe holy weak the tartarus blue ones and who ever buffing up vaan and penelo they spawn the same places everytime. So two zone away past the Crystal into were the mirror knight's are back to them and although they hells gate flames are only five per cent it's better to chain them reason is when they do start to drop them they seem to do it all at once it took me an hour and it is humbley worth the grind the scarlitite there's three of them the one you farmed thread another to you left diagonally head down to mini bridge through the barrier into open field one there and head back to Crystal back out twenty mins but your ways quicker I'll try on new version but did you know you can get Damascus steel in the step off the very same method off a rare game June called bluesang just same as the tortoise same steal technique same method and all three items should take two hours max. Try getting soul powder that is fun. Not lol

I have killed so many cerberus to get hell gates flame so I do your poached ng method fuzz and I get one. I know u said it was a 5 percent drop but francisca drops when u kill cerberus so the drops follow fire gem, prime pelt, and francisca so I think if a francisca drops that takes the place of a hell gate flame. I finally got one from poaching.

It was faster then killing and was better then killing cause there's only one enemy that can't be poached there the golem can be poached and has a rare item can be killed, steal, or poach from to get Mystletainn. From the area cerberus is in the fey woods.

The best way to get Hell Gate Flames is to not pick up every dropped item after defeating a fiend, I tried doing the chain method but to no avail. So I thought to myself "Hmm maybe if I don't pick up everything I'll have a much better chance in getting it" and it worked a lot more favorable than one might think. The same method can be applied for getting Serpent Eyes from the Basilisk, to make Serpentarius.

I actually recommend skipping Ninja Blade 2 or 3 rather than ninja blades 1. simply because NB1 gets you four options, and 2/3 only net you one.

I've already got all my weapons and armor, and it all came from the guide. if u know how to read tables and reference items in the lists you can get anything you need in a very fast way. Yeah the old glitch in the game from the PS2 version you need 500 chain combo & it appeared every 3, But I noticed that wolf never gives it if your chain is above 10. Turtles in Nabreus Deadlands drop Scarletite, it's a monograph drop so no need to even chain them.

Need to kill all the enemy first. If you already spawned him once, you need to leave palmina rift and at least load 2 zone to make monster spawn again. Try the west exits and west again to go to the feywood. That way you load two and leave palmina.

I tried to stealing more of the Scarletite by making the Aspidochelon respawn and after stealing from it once it won't let me steal another one. It keeps saying "nothing to steal" I even went out one map and went back in to see it again and I still can't steal it again

you have to sell 2HGF+2damascus+1scar for 1Gemsteel (you have to repeat this method to get 3Gemsteel), dont sell 6HGF+6damascus+3scar coz it will only give you 1Gemsteel

You are 100% correct Fuzz - Monograph drops aren't dependent upon battle-chain levels. They are just the flat % - whatever listed in the wikia // usually it's like 10-15% for a given special item to drop, but Hell-Gate Flame is particularly cruel, at just 5% chance to drop (one of the lowest of all Monograph drops in the game, I believe). which is why it's so hated, and why so many myths have built up about how to get them, over the years ;-)

I found to be faster to farm Gemsteel, just killing Lvl 99 Red Chocobo in Haulo Green (Ozmone Plain). To know when they spawn, I used the tool RNG Helper by mztikk. But I think there is also a ps4 variant. Then, when they spawn, you can use one of the most popular and cheap tactic: Using Break to kill regular Chocobo, and make they respawn, but theoretically, with RNG helper, you can also totally avoid this part. Finally, when lvl 99 chocobo comes, immediately cast Berserk on him and put Decoy on your character with a very high value of Evade. Gendarme shield is highly recommended for this. Attack him with powerful weapons, and that's it. The battle takes 20-30 seconds, if you have good weapons. I had Zodiac Spear and Seitengrat. Gemsteel has a 90% chance to be dropped by lvl 99 Chocobo. For me, it was dropped every single time, with the Ribbon. I made 5 Gemsteel in less than 20 mins.

Been farming for the Hell gates flame for 6 hours now and not a single one has dropped???? I've tried to chain them "brought it to a 311 chain" nothing tried not chaining them I've easily killed over 1000 of the red guys and not a single hell gates flame I've got 99 Francisca's and 99 X-potions though... There is no way it has a 5% drop rate because I would've got one already with killing over 1000 of them I should have 5 of them for killing 100 if it was 5% drop rate but yet here I sit with 0 with 1000 kills

You have to have the Hunter's Monograph or it will never drop, as you just unfortunately found out.
