I will leave you with Pete Seeger & Jack Elliot , both inauthentic Folk Musicians (Pete from an academic family, Jack ran away from a Middle class Jewish home) playing close to seminal American roots music. Lovely. Ha.

The old folks used to talk about the 'sweetness' of someone's yodeling. Modern yodeling has gotten showoffy but Ramblin Jack has about the sweetest yodel ever.

15 years ago I was at a friend who is well known in rodeo. A pickup truck drove up and two men emerged. Got guitar cases out of the back and came up on front porch. My son had just turned three, a tow head all bright and shiny, if not precocious. Well the gentleman introduced themselves and Jack held his hand out to my son saying, " hello, I'm Ramblin' Jack Elliott " my son missed not a beat in his reply of, " Ramblin' Jack Elliott had a lot to do with it".The look on Jack's face was disbelief and intrigue. He looked at me and i told him Kris Kristofferson's CD of Silver Tongued Devil was in our vehicle and had good rotation! Jack doted on my boy for a bit just having a chat. One of my fondest memories. So The Pilgrim Chapter 33 on that album that says the line my son told Jack has such a happy feeling for me all these years later. Life is good and music is a gift in song to us all.. may you all have your moments reach deeply to your core in as memorable a way. Be safe.

My parents had Jimmie Rogers' recording on 78 rpm. Great to be reminded from 70 years ago.

I must confess that Odetta's version on an early album is the best but this was VERY nice.

like Dave van Ronk another Brooklyn born boy although in his case he did everything to avoid letting anyone know that he was from a middle-class Jewish family Not that it matters like Pete Seger who is from a patrician lost family on the Hudson River they were able to play the authentic music almost as authentic as people who grew up in Appalachia where the Delta almost as authentic

Is there any footage extant of Jack actually doing any rambling?
@stepno6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely . .. There's one clip in particular about a trip to New Orleans that makes it clear where the nickname may have originated.

@@stepno 912 Greens is such a weird recording. The weird story involving banana trees and disabled cats, the emotional accompaniment, and the acoustic treatment all make for a very surreal atmosphere, practically psychedelic, from a guy not usually known for that kind of thing.

Those "of youth" or unaware might find interesting Pete's political/social life. I spent a few minutes browsing Wikipedia; thus my recommendation.
