@@MrEvansjethro because sanctions had such an impact on the micro economy that was in place... I'm not justifying the policy but people still had jobs and local industry was still strong. All of this has been lost and worst of all the people have been sold out by the ANC. Furthermore and closer to home ask yourself this question, did sanctions ever change Robert Mugabes internal policies or brutal actions?

@@thembasibula5971 I don’t see what’s wrong even if he was reading, every single speech made by politicians is written down as notes which they read from. It’s also his last message to the people, which will have to be a formal address, meaning that it has to be written down so that no points are missed, message isn’t too long and it is something that you work on over a period of time. I also think that you don’t seem to know the difference between “from the heart” and “off by heart”. A message can be from the heart even if it is read, Mandela himself has done messages which are clearly from the heart but were read. As for PR, this message comes after his death so I don’t know what public approval he could be soaking up or wanting, since he is dead.

You're forgiven Mr DE klerk, I know it takes guts to admit guilt and apologize for your wrong doings. On the same note we will never forget the role you played at your capacity going against your own people and party members at times to end apartheid in this country. Was not a coincidence that you won the Nobel peace price with the late legendary Nelson Mandela, it was through your integrity and acknowledging that apartheid was pure in justice and evil. I wish your last message will inspire change to a new generation of whites in this country. Rest in Power you will go down as a man of integrity.

@@lulamanjuza He did say it many times when he was alive... He didn't have the vicious heart of his predecessors or a Zuma-type, and things changed fast as soon as he became president. All the other apartheid presidents were vastly worse than him, yet he took it on himself to apologize, to admit his misguided earlier beliefs from (what I would call brainwashed) Afrikaner upbringing, and appreciate how much pain and trauma his party had caused to fellow South Africans of colour.

I was shocked as there where many white people who were so against this APARTHEID system as they wanted to mingle with other races. One of those was De Klerk's son who married a coloured lady and his mom could not take and she died very young because of the stress caused by his white son who married a coloured woman.

I would like to Take a moment as a White South African Male. Firstly to share my condolences with his family and friends. Further to all south South Africans of color, I am truly sorry for the suffering bestowed on so many during apartheid and its legacy in the subsequent years and currently. Thank you you for the tremendous mercy that you have shown White South Africans in the wake of apartheid. I was too young at the time to understand the gravity of the mercy and forgiveness that was playing out in front of me. You have allowed us not only to continue living in this country but to part take in opportunities. You have allowed us in many cases to share in your beautiful diverse cultures over the years and we are better for it. I have a daughter and reading some of the comments below I have hope that one day two she will be allowed to live a life in this beautiful country with all its beautiful people. And claiming to suffer from trauma by osmosis is wrong and dishonest. You are diminishing the actual trauma experienced by the actual victims, i.e my parents and grandparents. It's insane to think I also have my grandpa's trauma! Someone who was kicked and jailed and had dogs put on him. My daily experience today in 2021 does not compare to his experience at my age in 1970. The trauma I have is the trauma of ANC failure and bad policy choices, not Apartheid
