It’s too bad you didn’t have the captions on or lyrics up on some of these songs. What makes BTS so special is the deep meaning and intelligence. Their discography is huge, and they don’t restrict themselves to one genre or sound.

I highly recommend watching their live performance of "Cypher Medley in Seoul 2017", "Guide to BTS Members" by Mari Taylor and "The Rise of Bangtan" series! Most of their songs have a music video, dance practice and a live performance to go along with it. It's worth watching all of it! Make sure to turn on English subtitles, watch lyric videos, or use Bangtan Doolset to look up English lyrics. Welcome to the BTS Rabbit Hole! lol

BTS is the biggest group in the world and one of the most successful artists. The group consists of 7 members (including 3 rappers and 4 vocalists) from South Korea. 1. RM ( rapper, leader ) September 12, 1994 - 29 years old 2. JIN ( vocalist ) December 4, 1992 - 31 years old 3. SUGA/AGUSTD ( rapper) March 9, 1993 - 31 years old 4. J-HOPE ( rapper) February 18, 1994 - 30 years old 5. JIMIN ( vocalist ) October 13, 1995 - 28 years old 6. V ( vocalist ) December 30, 1995 - 28 years old 7. JUNGKOOK ( vocalist ) September 1, 1997 - 26 years old They collaborated with a lot of artists such as: Coldplay, Fall Out Boy, Halsey, MAX, Lauv, Anderson .Paak, Becky G, Snoop Dogg, NLE Choppa, Kodak Black, Desiigner, Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, Juice WRLD, Wale, Warren G, Nicki Minaj, J.Cole, Little Simz, Steve Aoki, Jason Derulo, Kid LAROI, Central Cee, Erykah Badu, Muni Long, Lil Nas X, Charlie Puth, Usher, (+more) As a group BTS have a huge amount of songs 300+ (only 3 of their songs as a group are entirely in English). They are all songwriters and music producers, most of their work is very meaningful, so reading the lyrics is really important. They make music in a lot of different genres and styles (Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, EDM, Latin Pop, Ballad, ...+). Each of the members is very different, and all of them make their own solo stuff so depending on what kind of music you are interested in, you really have a lot to choose from. If you want to learn more about them, I highly recommend watching these videos, which I will link below: 1. Yes, they say “I love myself… yo, player, hater, you should love yourself!” - it’s the last cypher they made and where they were very sharp against their haters on the first three, they pretty much told them they forgave them for being so ignorant and to love themselves. Watch the lyric videos and the live medley! They go off live!!!!💜💜💜🥰

That's why our boys are #1, yes they are not scared to tackle common issues in the Korea culture or express their strong feelings about unfair society expectations... this is probably why they had grasped the younger generation, they are voices that others can not express. Their music is so special, why they are so successful is they are genuine, humble and not scared to write and express themselves. Though their may be some talented Kpop groups too, BTS is the only group who truly writes, produce their music... while expressing their struggles along the way, giving strength to others and dedicating songs to their fandom... ARMY... ❤💜💜🙆‍♀️

A little bit of context for N.O. the line “In seoul to the SKY”. in Korea is there are three major universities (equivalent to our ivy league universities in america) in Korea Seoul University, Korea University and Yonsei University which are referred to as The city in the SKY (Seoul Korea Yonsei), lots of parents really pressure their kids to get into these universities and it causes student a lot of stress bc they are very hard to get into

SKY stands for the 3 main Universities in South Korea and the oppressive nature of schools and parent trying to get their offspring into one of the 3 Universities as it's seen that if you get your Degree from one those 3 you'll get the best career opportunties afterwards. So the competition is over the top.

Glad you checked out more. the rabbit whole is so much deeper tho' LOL. The group's first 3 members are the primary rappers, RM, SUGA, and j-hope with the vocalists coming after to fill out the gruop. They were originally going to be a hip hop group but the CEO at the time saw a need for it to be different, as there was a need in the market for a group with a harder foundation that could speak to the social commentary of youth at the time, and took them into the k-pop realm as an Idol group. A lot of American's associate k-pop with bubble gum pop but it really is more than that..as SUGA once said in their interview at the Grammy Museum, "‘I’m a little careful to talk about Kpop as a genre because I don’t want to be defining Kpop as a genre... Kpop includes not just the music, but the clothes, the makeup, the choreography…all these elements I think sort of amalgamate together in a visual and auditory content package, that I think sets it apart from other music or maybe other genres so again, as I said, rather than approach Kpop as it’s own genre I think approaching it as this integration of different content would be better." You'll often see a bit of different true genres rolled into a single song, although i will firmly state that no one is like BTS, they are their own and definitely stood out and took a much bolder approach than the rest of the industry then. Now others are trying to imitate their success and failing as their attempts are not organic. Some are finding bits of success and there are talented artists in some of the other groups, but they cannot imitate what the guys have done. BTS as a group (with solos and unit songs and full songs with all members) and solo projects outside of the group have over 400 songs now... And yes, the first set of albums are a school themed trilogy - I would agree for you to watch the Taylor Marin video that gives their background, but also the Grammy Museum interview, where they kind of describe their approach over the years and the maturation of their music to that point in their careers. Hope you check out more. Thanks. EDIT: Yes i know this reaction is a few months old - haven't gone to see what else is on the channel yet - will go take a peek. Hope the journey has been a good one so far.

The first two members were underground rappers, one of whom was hoping to just be a producer. The group evolved as members were added and their flavor became incredibly diverse. The diversity of members allows them to weave in and out of multiple genres, letting different members take the lead to direct the feel of the song. And there is no ego about it -- they all feel that the group only works with every member. They debuted when most of them were teenagers in the very strict South Korean culture. They had to walk a very fine line between what they wanted to say and how they were going to say it. They were given freedom from the beginning to explore the kind of artist they wanted to be. Believe it or not, RM had to really pull back on all his f-bomb, lol.

The rappers are RM (you loved him on Cypher 2 - the first one to rap). He used to BTS’ leader. Suga aka AgustD is the one you loved in #2 who rapped so fast. J hope is the third rapper you loved in Cypher 1 (He rapped 2nd). They all write their own stuff as well as produce it. Both RM and Suga were underground rappers from age 13 on, then signed onto Big Hit and eventually became BTS members. J hope lesrned to rap from RM and Suga developing his own style. 💜💜💜😊

When the group BTS was being formed they were originally supposed to be a rap group. RM ( Rap monster) was the first member added, then Suga. Other original members included Supreme Boi, Iron and 11, who went on to form their own collective known as Rock Bottom. You will hear Supreme boyi in some BTS songs, like some cyhers because he stayed with the company as a producer as well. When BTS began to incorporate dance J-Hope joined, he was a street dancer who learned how to rap from other members. When BTS began going the route of pop group the vocal members Jin, Jungkook, V and Jimin joined. BTS is short for Bangtan Sonyeondan, which roughly translates to Bulletproof Boyscouts. In terms of bulletproof it means to deflect negativity. When they debuted the members ranged in age from 15 to 20, so a lot of their earlier songs were about school life and adolescents. You said they were PG rap, but in South Korea they were really going against the establishment when it comes to education and expections on young people. These criticism were not regularly heard in Korean Pop music, and particularly Idol music (boy and girl groups) since the early 90's. BTS were gaing popularity in South Korea, but it was their international fans that really got their trajectory going. BTS is a group that started from the bottom up, they don't get a lot of radio play in the US, but they are one of the top selling artists, and ARMY (fanbase) are always streaming their songs, they are currently the group with the most audio plays worldwide. They have a lot of music as a group and solo, covering different genres. I'm looking forward to more reactions from you. I like that for the group reactions you started with their earlier work. Please put on english subs when available, avoid auto translated. HYBE officials channel and Bangtan TV are where you will find official content. Enjoy BTS More is a fan channel that includes subtitles to live performances.

So they have always been diverse in their musical genres, but that is not unique to BTS necessarily. You’ll hear the term K-pop often referred to as a genre, but it’s more of an industry. K-pop in general tends to mix a lot of genres within their music, a song from any group can Include various genres within one single song. BTS does this often. Since they have members who are vocalist and rappers, they tend to highlight those elements in their music, and mix everything from pop, Latin pop, EDM, R&B, hip-hop, trap, etc. From the very beginning of their career, the rappers specifically have always been involved in the music production (the 3 rappers, always write their own lyrics ) as the other members have developed as artists over the years they have also contributed to the production and writing. The three rappers continue to write and produce most of the music along with other producers within their label. Their early works seems a bit PG because they were very young at the time and especially if you don’t know what they’re saying. However, I highly recommend looking up their lyrics, they truly were pushing the envelope, especially as young Korean artist. Two of those rappers came from underground hip-hop, so they have been writing about taboo and controversial subjects since their debut, maybe not in the same way that Western artist talk about “hard-core” subjects but yes you are correct, for their culture and age group, they were pushing boundaries.

Oh R U late 2 (eg oh are you late to?) one pupil stating they are late for while asking another student if they are also late for school. The first triology was about the problems of the South Korean Education system. How oppressive and competitive it is and how it kills young people's dreams. How South Korea has the highest suicide rate umongst the youth in the world due to the pressure's of schooling. Also it's losing a large number of teachers to suicide for the same reason. The spoke out about it which was unheard of especially within the Kpop Industry. Bangtan are 7 members 3 Rappers and 4 Vocalists and they use wide variety of music genre's and they use and mix them in ways they want to. They are 7 Song Writers, 7 Composer, 7 Producers, all to a greater or lesser degree. One member RM the main song writer of them has over 200 songs with the South Korean Copyright Assication. That's just RM. Suga (Aka) is the next with and he Produces for other artists in other music companies as well. They write lyric's while travelling between concerts. All 7 can play at least on instrument and occassionally one member will play piano or guitar on stage backed up with a full live band. One member is a lover of Jazz due to playing the Saxophone. In fact 2 members play saxophone. One member plays drums and the list goes on. They have complete creative freedom which is almost unheard of with the Kpop Industry. But their company told them You tell your stories, what's important to you you be real that's the only thing I ask. They can work with whoever the want to work with or do it all themselves or mix of both. They have in house producers eg the CEO Bang PD, Slow Rabbit, P Dogg and Supreme Boi when they want their input. BTS (Bangtan Sonyeodan) are not your normal Kpop group in fact they only really have one foot in it.
