“Yu had shared a test firmware with me that fixed the RIT problem and allowed me to adjust the spurs. I was able to reduce spurs quite a bit.” Yu is the developer and this was written by W2AEW. I would advise patience. Good things come to those who wait and we all know the other old adage about honey too. I have an FX4-CR and I trust that is evolving into a fine radio with an impressive band range and output power level. That said, it’s anyone’s prerogative to jump ship. I like innovation and variety and that always involves lows. Grateful for the post to keep the ham community informed!

Are you a CW op by chance? I'd love to hear the results of someone testing the radio (& new FW) over the air to make sure the leading dit issue at fast speeds is resolved. This would have to be an on-the-air test, ie with a remote webSDR receiver - not locally heard within the shack (where it will sound fine). This is reported as being fixed but, as yet, no one has verified it. 73

This is one of my go to radios. absolutely love it Yu has been very helpful with me in answering questions. He's working on the DIG_U and DIG_L issues while connected via USB cable.

This issue has been resolved. Could you revise your review to reflect this? Yu has been great to correct these problems. Your reviews are appreciated.

Are u a CW op? I find that leading dits are omitted from transmission ~30% of the time when CW speed is 22wpm or faster. Many of the flaws of the FX-4CR can be fixed in firmware but I have my doubts about this one. I've returned the rig for a refund. If all the issues get resolved, I'll reconsider in the future. For now, I don't need $550 invested in a "maybe".

@@AE5X it looks like it has a lot of potential. Have not received mine yet. I may just ask for a refund as well. Was looking into it for cw, js8call and winlink activities.

I'll be uploading another video this evening showing the leading dit issue. If that and a few other issues can be fixed, it'll be a great rig - it does have potential.

How long did you wait for it to come in after you ordered it? I guess all the cw kinks are solved.

thanks for taking one for the team... i have some cheap offshore rigs that are fun, but this rig is not cheap... although it looks good and has promise i can fully understand your disappointment... i got rid of my xiegu rigs after getting burned on the GSOC... was interested in this rig but not anymore... if/when they show up on amazon i may pop for one with a bug-fixed firmware as returns are no-questions-asked... again, thanks..

Yep, good idea on ordering from Amazon, given their return policy.

A friend of mine sent me this video, And I tested mine. I do know that on a lower voltage input, @ 9VDC it gets a little unstable even at 5 watt's. I've had mine now for over three weeks and I'm not seeing any issues with the RIT. Be nice to have a dedicated manual for this. I would try the hard reset and see if that resolves the issue you have. I have worked CW, and phone without any issues at all.

I was wondering if you could use ‘split’ in the meantime. But I read that you returned it. I’ve been pouting around the house in front my xyl until she gives in and lets me buy one. I guess it’s good she is stronger willed than I. Hihi
@AE5X
@AE5X Жыл бұрын
Yes, I could use split to serve the same function as RIT, but it is much less convenient to do on the fly because the FX-4CR doesn't have an A=B button. So to get VFO-B in the vicinity of where I'm operating (with VFO-A) I have to go to VFO-B, select the proper band, then use the VFO dial to tune to wherever VFO-A is. With RIT, I turn it on and it's there where it needs to be, ready to go. An A=B button would make split as fast and convenient as RIT.

I wonder if Yu could do a firmware update to make an A=B. That’s kinda my only hold back now. I do like the extra watts out power and also having 6 meters.10 watts on SSB just doesn’t cut it sometimes. I’m a little concerned about ‘front end overload’ as well. I’ve had a kx2 since they came out. So I know it won’t reach that bar. Hopefully the code bug has been fixed. My code isn’t that fast although I’ve been touching 20 wpm more and more without really trying hard. I’m also tempted to see if Yaesu is going to fill their ‘qrp’ gap since the end of the ft-818. I wore out my 817. Might be a long wait for them come out with something. Japanese radio products can usually be depended upon…at twice the price.

@@gliderrider I now have a 2nd FX-4CR on the way here. The circuit board mod has been re-worked and I expect the USB port to also work so I can do firmware updates on this one.

Over half a grand for a toy Chinese rig with buggy firmware. No one could have predicted that...not! Be patient, wait a few months or a year, they may get around to fixing it. Why do people continue to buy these things then act so serious and surprised when they don't function as they should? Bugs in the Xiegu G90 are still being fixed and it was released two years ago. And new bugs are created when the old ones get patched.
@AE5X
@AE5X Жыл бұрын
Buggy, yes; a toy, no. The receiver is too good for this radio to be considered a toy and I hope to elaborate on that later. But first, the RIT needs to be fixed. And other stuff...
