I'm using a 60Hz 4K monitor that can only OC to 62Hz and 72Hz @1080p, so it looks like my FX-8320@4.5GHz/2145MHz C11 is just barely still good enough to work just fine. But some new games look to finally be too much although still works enough to be playable despite frame drops into the 40s. Which is what I've felt BUT after 7+ years of running my machine 24/7/365 the USB are starting to flake out every few hours (when cloning drives or 3D printing) and that's not OK. I was hoping to hold out till next gen Ryzen but looks like I'll be picking up a R7 2700 soon for $130 at Micro Center AND they still give you a $30 instant rebate when you get a motherboard with it. So $200 for a motherboard and CPU then 32GB of 3200/c16 ram and a 1tb M.2 drive for another $225, maybe 16GB and 512GB M.2 for $120. The ladder being $320+tax around $350. A new R7 3700 Is $330 on Newegg!! Lol.. You crazy Micro Center ;-)

The tests are usually done one or two times for the test to get into "Ram", after that the tests are done one time, if i see stutter or an unsual deviation i will repeat the tests some more times to see if the results were correct. There is something odd happening with your Vega 56 with FX-8350, it has way lower gpu speeds than with the other cpu's. Zen processors keep it above 1500+, but FX lets the clock drop to way below sub 1ghz speeds. Even when FX-8350 is not pegged hard at all. the bottle neck is there somewhere.

Save as little as you can every month AND do buy a Ryzen system, you'll enjoy it so much more than your current setup bro! I saved 18 months since Ryzen 1000 chips were launched because I trusted AMD will release better and better products every year and this year I just bought a brand new R9 3900X @ 500 $ + MSI X470 Gaming Plus MAX @ 110 $ + 16 GB Corsair LPX 3200 MHz @ 85 $ + Seasonic 620W power supply @ 85 $ - I'll replace my old Gigabyte GTX 1060 G1 Gaming video card next spring with some AMD, Intel or Nvidia video card!

I am glad you were able to save to build a really good computer, but saving money is not something I can do at this time. It will literally take a act of congress to increase how much money the V.A. pays me each month as a Service connected disabled vet, and that is not something I see happening. So I play the games my computer can handle, I am thankful for what I have in this system, but I am also aware of its limitations and how much of a upgrade a R5 3600 would be for me, let alone the R9 3900X you were able to save up for. I hope all is well, :)

I agree, the 580 is about as far as I would bother pushing a FX-6300. With the games i do play now, it gets me 60fps on this 75hz monitor I currently have. :)

Life ain't fair. I want to upgrade. I want a Ryzen since the first gen was released and yet, I'm stuck with my 4.9 OC FX-8350 due life. Yeah, I got lucky with the silicon but still, it ain't getting close to a 1600 OC on the workloads I put it to work on. I need to be Ryzen. (3900X is my aim now)

Buy into ryzen on a budget and upgrade when you can. I started with a 2200g and now have a 1600 (being delivered today) afterwards I'll Go and get a 3900x down the line.

Power draw on it?
@jakegarrett81095 жыл бұрын
MeSaber 300w roughly will be power draw on FX at that speed (it varies with temperature though, hotter = more heat, for example 5.5 GHz was only 350w for me at core temp of 0c when it would likely have been 500w at the 1.7 Vcore I was using if it were at thermal limit if 79c, phase cooled for the temps). It also varies with silicon binning and voltage, but that’s about the power draw (so similar to Intel 9900k), Ryzen 1700 at max is like 135w and then impossible to cool without insane cooling while FX is fine in the 4.8-4.9 region at 300w with a 120mm AIO). Power is measured from 12v risks using an HX1200i platinum PSU since it graphs out power output. From the wall will be higher since PSU is only going to be 80-90% efficient, and I deduct some of the idle power. Example, if it idles at say 80w, and then I see 350w running Cinebench, I say it’s a 300w cpu because it increased 280w and of that 80w idle about 20w will likely be the cpu with GPU using maybe 30w, and 15w wasted on the board, and 15w extra toss up on SSD and a couple fans. FX will pull slightly more power like up to 350w in certain stress tests around that speed, but like gaming it might only be 200-250w so it won’t be running full useage. It’s not too high, but it’s not great, lol! My main system uses the 1.7 kW (TR-1950x plus 4x Fury, powered by 2x SuperNova 1300 PSUs in a vampire style casket, hence duel 13’s. I used to run memory at 2666-13-13-13 at 1.3v for lols, here a Devil edition GPU would also be suitable, haha!). By comparison, my Titan Xp (300w since max offset is +20% power, which it gladly uses without overclocking) and Ryzen 1700 used only 400w in total, wow that’s efficient! And yes, all my systems are clocked to the max possible without using LN2 or anything crazy (at least not for the numbers I’m reporting, like that 1.7 kW was average for gaming on Crysis 3 at 4k ultra but that $500 in GPUs would not even be beaten by $6k in duel Titan RTX for that game, so who cares if it’s $0.20 an hour to run, lol, I sleep and work overtime so it’s like $3 a month to operate that machine, that would take over 20 years for it to make the Titans worth it, and those would still make the system use 800-900w so not exactly great efficiency either! But electric is cheap at $0.12/kWhr)

There is no "FX 8000 series". CPUs starting with 8 just meant 8 cores. It's actually the 300 ans 500 series that stand out (mostly the 300 series though) because I'd take an FX-6300 over an FX-8150 any day. It's the second number that matters most because the Bulldozer series (the bad one) was the 100 series and the Piledriver series (the good one) was the 300 series.
