Fx Chronograph 1 year review

The FX Chronograph has been with me for over a year, so I finally decided to give a review, I added some help full tips and tricks , as well as the good and bad about the chrony.

FX Chrony was a gamechanger!! Now I can get numbers on every air rifle very easily. Small , quick and painless. Love it.

I use the chrony chronograph and although an excellent bit if kit it takes some setting up with tripods ext . I get my FX tomorrow and can't wait, It will be so simple just to slip it over the end of my gun. I ajust my speeds all the time for accuracy and this will make shooting a pleasure.

Great review . Those who say review and have not had it for atleast a year , are doing a unbox . You can not do a fare review on a product the day you unbox it . Use it 100+ times first , in rain , cloudy , sunny , snowy weather . Thank you P.s. I love mine too !

Just purchased one of these. Probably one of the best shooting accessories I've ever bought, especially as the laws here in the UK are strict so I can check my gun isn't over 12ftlbs in just a few seconds. Brilliant bit of kit. I was a bit sceptical at first but it works like a charm.

I love mine, bit sensitive, please make sure you take the measurement from exactly the same spot alon the barrel each time, an inch forward,backwrad or lower can result in a different reading...

Haha!!! Eats more batteries then a vibrator!! I agree its horrible on the batteries. It should have Micro usb rechargeble batteries Great video

Fully agree. But for the rest, nothing to say. Excellent chrony. I also have a "caldwell" chrony which is also very good but a little bulky. But much less battery consumption

Hi Gert, Try taking a piece of 30mm tube, add a scope ring to one side and mount on the side of the impacting so it runs parallel to the barrel, then mount the chrony to that. Siedaar no poi shift, then you can remove the chrony and add a camera and bam a different point of view video. Cheers Kevin from Jhb

I found a cheap mini tripod on wish and that is in my mind way easier to fit under the barrel. Love your videos and even the accent, as I speak both German and Dutch 🤓😁

Great vid and great bit of kit . Had mine over a year and exactly the same, I fins 2 full pellet tins is the perfect hight and dont blow off the table. Also great for down your way as the temp, density altitudes and humidity vary so much and it gives you the real time check of what your actually doing without all the gubbins. And as for the batteries at least they are the same as the ones for the vibrator 😂

I just received my chrony FX. I think he's great, but he has a huge appetite for batteries. I also have a "Caldwell". It is doing great too and the batteries last a lot longer. I fix the FX to the barrel with rubber bands and the Caldwell I put it 2.5 meters in front of my rifle. I tested both at the same time and the result is the same. Sometimes there is 1 meter / sec. of difference. But often the result is identical on the two chronys. The advantage with the FX, it is smaller, less bulky, and it also gives the Joules.

Thanks for the feedback Hermann, yes the FX is tough on batteries. Depending on the gun you use don't fix it to the barrel with rubber bands, it effects the point of impact, the extra weight on the barrel as well as harmonics will have a massive impact on accuracy.

@@AimSmall Hello, thanks for your reply. Indeed, the chrony FX attached to the barrel has an impact on the shooting accuracy with 135 grams (with or without batteries?) Suspended from the barrel. I received with my chrony FX a rod that must be attached to the picatinny rail under the bottle. What I have done. Now the chrony is just under the barrel +/- 4mm from the barrel. No more contact with the barrel.

POI change with the chrony at the barrel dosn´t mater because this device in not meant to be on the barrel while hunting/pesting/target practice !!! Just testing the speed of various types of amo ! Thanks for charing your great vids !!!!👍

Just a tid bit of info: I have found that using wire ties on the FX Chronograph work great. And they do have Wire Ties that have a release tab so you can use them over and over again.

Thank s Mike. Just make sure you place the Chrony the exact same ditance from the barrel front every time, they are sensitive, 1 cm to the front or back will give you a different reading.

Hi Gert, Thanks for the vid. I want to measure velocity down range, as close to the target holder as possible. Can the fx radar be set up (carefully!! 😄) in front of and below the target to record speeds at the POI? Cheers

No it won't work, unless you aim the radar back at the shooter. Haven't tried it, I use Strelok, it does the calculations for you. You input the normal data like fps, projectile weight etc and distance , it calculates the impact velocity. The only other chrony I know that can do that is labradar. Very expensive and needs precise setup.

I use a cricket and the cylinder is flush with my airtube, would this work hanging off the air cylinder ?

Yes it will, I usually put mine under the barrel on a box or a tin, or next to the barrel.

Battery use aint the worst thing imo, the app not having a facility to store pellet details for use in different guns instead yav gotta add the details each time😢

You can store different pellets for different setups. I have a setting for all my different .177 weights as well as the 22 pellets and then a bout 10 different slug weights. You can't custom a pellet and save that detail. I do a setup per gun per pellet, easy to use from there.

I figured out all the kinks with this chrony, it is very sensitive to speed differences depending on how far down the barrel it is placed as well as distance from barrel. Works great once you find the sweet spot

Mine does the same every now and then, I swith the CHrony on first and then open the App, sometimes I have to open and close the app a couple of times to get the Sync going

Must i connect it on a silencer at the end of the barrel and not on a rifle barrel end without a silencer ?

If you connect to rifle end you will see point of impact shift, try not to attach to barrel at all.

The battery life actually isn’t that bad - it’s the battery level meter that’s garbage. After it starts complaining about the low batteries, you’re actually at about 1/2 or even 1/3 of the total available battery life. I’ve measured the voltage couple of times, it’ll start complaining at around 1.45-1.5V which is just stupid.

Everything in perspective I assume. The prochrony uses a 9v battery, I haven't replaced the battery in the last 12months... versus FX Chrony where I replace batteries every 2 weeks at least. Thank you for the info, yes the FX warning light omes on very early, I use it until it doesn't read it anymore. Would rather that FX rethink the battery system (or whoever builds it for them) to be replaced by either a bigger rechargeable battery or a 9v battery system that will last longer.

At what point of air gunning would you say a chronograph is necessary?

When you start buggering around with your guns... on a more serious note a Chrony is very handy especially if you are shooting competitions, for the plinkers and hunters out there there is not a real need, unless your gun doesn't shoot consistently. I usually test slugs and pellets until I fins something that works, only then do I check the speed to replicate it in the future.

Be careful where you mount , to far forward will give you lower reading or to far back higher readings , ever gun is different on where you mount it , now set distance will do all and even FX has told me this

Thanks, my chrony is quite forgiving in this regard, but best results are 1 inch from the front, mine goes back a maximum 4 inches before it starts missing shots, again depending on how close to the barrel you place it.

May I ask where you got that impression? I use the Chrony in every video I make. I figured out the ideal placing distance for optimal performance. I love this little chrony, only thing I don't like is the battery life.

The FX Chrono is a piece of Junk save your money and get a Labradar.

Labradar is 4x the price and not as nifty, the trick with the Fx Chrony is placement, if you keep the ditance to the barrel the same the readings are actually not that bad. It is very sensitive to hight and distance from barrel.
