I took up cycling when I retired and from day 1 regretted doing so. Besides the regular close passing I also suffered on numerous occasions from drivers cutting T - junctions across 'give-way' lines and then driving towards me.. I wanted to collect my hard-earned pension so soon found other ways to keep fit, healthy and still alive!!!

When i get tired of bipping i do sometimes just stop in the road and ask the driver where the danger they are warning me of is. Strangely they sometimes get very angry that their warning has been taken seriously .. (Btw, your mini driver was positively restrained compared to my most recent 'bipper'!)

Interesting video. I live in the Wolds so know roads like these very well. I don’t ride a bike but it’s clear the driver here was an impatient fool ie: would that driver have used their horn when behind the inevitable tractors that use these roads all the time? The only thing I would say is although a tractor couldn’t have pulled over might you have been able to pull over at the driveway on the RHS at 3:08? It’s not a criticism just an observation as although this driver was totally in the wrong, luckily you didn’t come across some of the lunatics on drink or drugs that do use back lanes (thinking of your self preservation here).

At the end of the day we’re all road users and it’s down to everyone to be aware of everyone else but as we go down from HGV’s, Cars, Motorcyclists, Cyclists & Pedestrians, those of us in metal cans need to be more aware of how vulnerable guys like you are. Hope you continue to enjoy riding and stay safe 👍

we do pay car and motorbike tax though. My sv650 is £120 a year, up from £96. Our car is £30 a year. And we both work full time, paying i think £60/£70 a week tax. So her argument is stupid. Most people I googled, thats 1 in 6, claim universal credit. So when she comes up behind a car in traffic, if that person is claiming universal credit, she can beep them out the way if she does not claim it.

I would say that most cyclists are drivers too, so will pay VED. The 'road tax' comment is always interesting because anyone who pays any form of tax in this country, even if they don't own a vehicle or pay VED, is paying into the pot of general taxation that roads are funded from. VED (what people often call 'road tax') is based on emissions anyway. Therefore, as a cyclist, you are classed as zero emissions, so wouldn't pay VED even if it was applied to cyclists. There are zero VED vehicles on the road. I bet she doesn't shout at the drivers of them vehicles.
