How do these people remain so unknown? It's criminal! It's beautiful. Thanks.

Vladigerov was unfortunately trapped behind an iron curtain in Bulgaria. His music is criminally under programmed. Luckily, Nadejda Vlaeva’s Hyperion CD is coming at the end of April 2021. Among other works by PV she will record for the first time his Exotic Preludes which are so beyond good. Hey pro-pianists, instead of the trillionth Beethoven or Mozart cd can you venture away from your teacher’s teacher’s stock standard repertoire and play some more exotic rare works like Vladigerov, Bortkiewicz, or Alkan? Please ty.

@@Swybryd-Nation agreed. Anything but Mozart Beethoven and Chopin. I’d accept some shubert. You know who’s really underrated tho? krassimir kyurkchiyski. He was a colleague of vladigerov, I believe he studied under him, and even dedicated his first concerto to vladigerov

This is, quite simply, the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard.

An incredibly beautiful movement in a wonderful concerto. Another work lost, not just because of the presuppositions of what constitutes great music, but because of the many other great works that have been put up on KZbin. They are getting lost in a sea of greatness.

I'm filled with awe and admiration of Vladigerov, how brilliant! Yes, I can clearly hear the influence of Sergej Rachmaninov, but it's nothing less than a huge advantage and very impressive as well. As a youngster, I wished to make music like Fredric Chopin, but I didn't manage. Of course. But I was stretching myself towards that goal. Now I think that was a notable achievement. I appreciate all kinds of music, especially music with an inner gospel of beauty.

Absolutely gorgeous; this piece’s beauty is so immense and unbelievable! The harmonies and dissonance make this even more beautiful than Rachmaninoff’s concerti; it’s insane that this piece is so unknown.

Ridiculous. How is it that I heard of this person for the first time this week? This is Rachmaninoff level music. Check out his Jewish Poem symphony. Would already be speechless, but even more so just contemplating that this composer is completely unknown. Simply unbelievable - how can this possibly be?

He is one of our most popular composers here in Bulgaria. There were 2 generations of composers that made great music inspired of the advancement and knowledge of the rest of Europe, that is until the end of WW2. For why he isn't that popular I'm not quite sure, barely anyone cares what was acomplished here (overall in the Balkans). But in any case, when it isn't made to be just for fame ad money it is more truthfull and pleasant to listen to.

@@vasil.kamdzhalov The reasons for the lack of popularity are multiple but I can think of at least five that are (most of them) interrelated and they have nothing to do with the quality of the music: 1) the superiority complex of the West that often denigrates the Balkan countries because they were « retarded » (Ottoman legacy); 2) the same as point 1) but a bit later in history because of communism (Soviet legacy); 3) the modernist aesthetics on artistic progress - i.e. a legacy of the 19th-century - that is still alive and kicking in the West (so if right now you still compose something tonal, you must be a conservative dumbass in their view); 4) the 20th-century postmodern aesthetics of « anything goes » (1968 legacy) (if you don’t cut carrots, compose for transgenders, choose a libretto about the migration crisis or global warming, you are uninteresting). In short, the Western cultural elite still determines what should be popular and what shouldn’t be and the propaganda machine will support vehemently what suits their agenda best; 5) the little interest of Bulgarians for their own classical composers which is a common attitude in other Balkan countries. (I recommend Frances Stonor Saunders’s book on the cultural Cold war which elaborately tackles point 2).)
