Richard Wagner's 'Tristan und Isolde' is often cited as a turning point in the development of Western classical music. The first chord in the prelude, known as the Tristan chord, does not follow the traditional practices of harmony, instead being dissonant and resolving to another dissonant chord. Likely the two most notable sections from the opera are the prelude and Isolde's 'Liebestod', both of which are commonly performed and transcribed for other instruments. Stradal instead arranges the 'love duet' from the second act, 'O sink hernieder, Nacht der Liebe', along with Brangäne's warnings 'Einsam wachend in der Nacht'. The scene takes place at night, with Tristan and Isolde declaring their love for each other, while Isolde's handmaid Brangäne warns the couple that the night will end soon, and that they will be discovered.
Many of the omitted vocal lines are added into the performance by Vizcarra. The score will not accurately reflect the changes that the pianist made.
