*Forgot to mention* ... for those that don’t know, these things are battery powered with a rechargeable battery 👌💚
@PerMejdal

And that is why it needs a repeater. All other battery powered TRÅDFRI devices are steering devices. They send a signal and go into deep sleep. The blinds are receivers, and needs to listen all the time. In their low power mode, they need a powerful signal is received it.

How long do the batteries last, does it give you any idea?
@PerMejdal
@PerMejdal 4 жыл бұрын
@@grahamjones7814 With a steering devices like the big standard remote, IKEA can predict the battery life easily to 2 years, because very little is pend for operation, and most of the battery is spend on standby. However with the blinds, most of the battery is spend on the motor. So the battery life depends on how often the blinds are opened and closed, and the max length of the blinds.

For info to set the max drop of the blind, use either the remote or botyom button on the blind to drop blind to the desired length, then press either the top or bottom button on the blind twice. This sets the drop.

Another great review. Thanks. Fyrtur Is apparently in parts of Sweden a local name for a old English dance known as Engelska. Witch literally is Swedish for “English”. The French version of the dance is known as Kadrilj. So the blinds are named after dances. I’m Swedish and this is news to me but then again I’m not in to folk dancing.

Love your review I have purchased The lighting system and it’s working very well that is one major fault if you have a power cut when the power is resumed all the lights come out there is no way of getting round this. I found out the hard way I have it installed in my home in Spain when I looked on the CCTV cameras every light in the house was on full and there is no way of switching them off remotely. Does this happened to the blinds if they are up will they go down or if they’re down will they go up. Just a thought for your next review keep up the good work mate thanks. Alan

yes, according to ikea, it should last 6 months i believe on regular, normal usage so that's rated at twice per day, one time going up in the morning and one time going down in the evening and maybe one or 2 additional adjustments to block the sun or something during the day. not sure how ikea calculates that, but i suspect it's pretty close to what i just laid out.

I just got to this video today and have to comment about your mention that it's not ready / half baked. I think IKEAs first idea like most of their product is to be as cheap and practical as possible which I certainly think they achieve here. However I have to point out that the protocol used for their blind is one of the oldest most used open source protocol in the world, it's one of the most standard with a single range of frequency shared for the entire world and the best for low power consumption (can run on battery for months). Zigbee is compatible to pretty much any "real" automation hub out their and nobody in their right mind would like to fully automated their house without a hub that can take zwave and zigbee like SmartThings or Hubitat which are fully compatible to Alexa and google Home.

I assume the signal repeater is so that they can have very low power signal coming out of the blinds and have the plugged in module be the thing that has the extra power needed to go the distance to whatever room you have the other module plugged into. Don't want to have the batteries being drained just waiting 24-7 for the occasional command.
