I appreciate the time you took to make the video. I myself went with the K&N. U.S.A made which means I help put Americans to work. That and I exchanged emails with Nels Byersdorf over at 2 Wheel Motorworks and he stated that the DNA has no advantage as far as performance gains over the K&N filter. He said they perform exactly the same.

DNA didn't say anything about reflashing my ECU, but then again, I don't have a high performance bike. What British motorcycle KZbinr Stuart Fillingham recommended is idling your bike for 12 minutes; just idle it, don't blip the throttle or anything. You want to get the bike up to operating temperature. The whole purpose to idling the bike is to let the O2 sensors see the increased airflow, so the ECU can "learn". If it's colder, let the bike run for 15 minutes or so. Then, go for a short ride (2-3 miles) to make sure everything is all right. If so, then go for a long ride and ENJOY!

You are really good at explaining in a pedagogical way how to do things, why you do a certain thing in a certain way and so on. K&N filters were the rage, everyone put them on cars, trucks, and motorcycles, until we finally were informed that they let a lot of dirt through. Especially once the oil dissipates, after about 5 months. Everyone says they clean and oil them often, but if it's not written down, it's not getting done. And it's an overnight job, to allow the washed filter to dry. Never have seen a shop mechanic do that right, they just blow them off and oil them up.

K&N's filter was made to still use the snorkel while DNA's was made to not use it, it's that simple. DNA wants $76 for the filter and they want $100 for a plastic lid, why does the lid cost more than the actual filter unit, and more importantly why does it cost $100? If I was $20 I'd be ok with it $96 for both no problemo, but $176 for both?

You should have went with the Hordpower FZ-07 airbox. 4-5hp gain on stock engines. Best intake for the FZ-07 at the moment.

i think the tube is for when its raining really bad they make the bikes to work good and it can help with low rpm torq even f1 mercedes engine has inlet tubes that can change to get longer or shorter to maximize power

Really want to do the Stage 2 dna. But the tuning is not so simple. In the uk the only thing i have found is the power commander. Total cost tuned will be around £700ish. Will be waiting for your performance comparison. If possible can you compare 5th gear roll on, top speed etc.

You can buy air filter oil in bigger quantities to save money. And for the cleaning part most degreasers (chain cleaner) work perfectly, so no need to buy the exact bran kit.

You mentioned that you re-flashed the ecu since the air intake allows a greater air flow. My question is, what map did you use? Are there specific maps for specific air intakes/exhausts, or is there a generic one for higher performance across the board? If it's a generic one, why do you need to re-flash the ecu then? I've watched your ecu flashing video, but i'm confused on how you pick the specific map for each upgrade? Now thinking, did you actually changed the map even, or did you just made a re-flash with the same altered engine mapping?

I imported a power commander 5 map that is for these mods. The reflash software lets you do that. I went over to the dyno jet site and found what I needed.

Ohh I see. I just went to power commander 5 website, and for your bike there are a few maps for stock and non stock air filters/ exhausts combos. But, what if the map for your specific upgrades aren't there (i.e. yoshimura exhaust with DNA air filter). Do you pick the next best thing or do you look somewhere else for a map for that specific upgrades?

One final question (I promise its my last one). I know the fairings + tank will block most of it, but with that air filter opening, aren't you weary of it allowing water in if it rains. That's why i assumed the stock one was facing backwards, to avoid water to get in there. Or is it just simply too well in there for water to reach it?

Hey Jake, have you checked out the Hordpower Air Box for the FZ? Completely eliminates the stock air box and supposedly gets you more power past 6k rpms with no losses in the lower end. They claim a 10hp gain with an aftermarket exhaust and the proper flash.
