Your videos are very enjoyable and I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge and craftsmanship I am curious about the making of wootz crucible steel I see you making it from many different types of metal I have watched videos from a fellow Florida that sadly is no longer with us and it seemed he tried to interface a specific ratio of iron bloom and carbon plus plant material to get a specific amount of carbide into the metal for the best cutting edge can this be changed with out affecting the cutting edge

Technically this is still not Wootz steel because it's not raw iron ore but already refined steel.....Wootz steel was NEVER made with refined steel.

Please don't ever clamp a blade in a vice pointing straight out towards you.. Also, dropping some of the ball bearings while putting them in the crucible, then leaving them sitting there, like a barbarian !

You are no doubt a professional knife maker! I love all the videos you have made and posted. The one thing that I would be delighted for you to reply about my comment to is this. I see you smear this paste all over the kinife you are making. And then you use some type of tool I assume a file and then you use some type of sharpening sandpaper. I assume that you are sharpening the knife at this point. I would be delighted if you reply to me and explain this process in detail to me thank you very much. Please keep posting your videos I enjoy them very much

Sgian dubh means "black knife" in Gaelic so the colour is appropriate.

2:18 pause, just struck by a wondering: has anyone ever made a blade that displays both kinds of "damascus" steel - the wootz and the pattern-weld? like, make one set of wootz steel with one target composition, and another set of wootz steel with more nickel, flatten them out, cut and stack, then forge weld them together and do all the pattern-weld art?
