My dad would listen to Handel's Messiah every year at Christmas. ...This Christmas, I don't have him. I am listening to this because I miss him. He served as a pastor for at least the 39 years of my life and, while fighting pancreatic cancer, he was diagnosed with 6 months and lived 3 years instead. Every visit to the VA and the doctors and the MRI and the surgery and the chemo... he used any strength he had to ask everyone, "Do you know Jesus? How is your relationship with Jesus?" He reached out to nurses, orderlies, staff... even as he had to use a rollator to get around, he still had my mom take him to Market Square and he would sit and share the Word of God with whatever strength he had right until the end. God, make me as bold. May God bring you peace in this difficult time. Know He is there. He has not forsaken you. We just must be still and quiet enough to hear Him. He is there to comfort like nothing you have ever known. Sometimes we have to get rid of distractions in our lives so we can hear Him.

Perhaps the most magnificent comment I have ever read - having read thousands. I served with my 97 year old father on the Midway today encouraging visitors who cared to stop to Talk with a WWII Veteran Today that the Lord has this whole apparently crazy mess - and, yes, He has it with crazy Joy, nearly unspeakable except as in your father's case, with severe mercy and joy. Merry Christmas. Shalu Shalom, Yerushalaim. Can't wait to meet him with Him!

The best modern performance of this work. I started singing Messiah in 1965 as a senior in high school as the soprano soloist. I continued on to sing in the concert choir at ASU in the later 60's. What a JOY to sing this wonderful work. Interestingly I knew who Jesus was through this music, but did not commit my life to HIM until 1983. I sang the Messiah every year with some group as I grew into maturity either as a soloist or in the choir. I know now at 76 He had been calling me through the music because I was not hearing any other way at the time. I still have the same score from high school which I cherish with all the markings over the years. I love to sing along even though my soprano voice has lost its height and flexibility but I can hear my voice as I sing along having memorized it all. What a JOY in my life to have this in my heart. Jesus is The Reason for The Season.

”“Comfort and keep comforting my people,” says your God. “Tell Yerushalayim to take heart; proclaim to her that she has completed her time of service, that her guilt has been paid off, that she has received at the hand of Adonai double for all her sins.” A voice cries out: “Clear a road through the desert for Adonai! Level a highway in the ‘Aravah for our God! Let every valley be filled in, every mountain and hill lowered, the bumpy places made level and the crags become a plain. Then the glory of Adonai will be revealed; all humankind together will see it, for the mouth of Adonai has spoken.” A voice says, “Proclaim!” And I answer, “What should I proclaim?” “All humanity is merely grass, all its kindness like wildflowers: the grass dries up, the flower fades, when a wind from Adonai blows on it. Surely the people are grass! The grass dries up, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand forever.” You who bring good news to Tziyon, get yourself up on a high mountain; you who bring good news to Yerushalayim, cry out at the top of your voice! Don’t be afraid to shout out loud! Say to the cities of Y’hudah, “Here is your God! Here comes Adonai Elohim with power, and his arm will rule for him. Look! His reward is with him, and his recompense is before him. He is like a shepherd feeding his flock, gathering his lambs with his arm, carrying them against his chest, gently leading the mother sheep.” Who has counted the handfuls of water in the sea, measured off the sky with a ruler, gauged how much dust there is on the earth, weighed the mountains on scales, or the hills in a balance? Who has measured the Spirit of Adonai? Who has been his counselor, instructing him?“ ‭‭Yesha 'yahu (Isa)‬ ‭40‬:‭1‬-‭13‬ ‭CJB‬‬ bible.com/bible/1275/isa.40.1-13.CJB

As now, I am an adult Black American, I reflect with unspeakable joy, my young teenage years living in a very tiny country town in MISSISSIPPI. Then being bussed, to a rare HBCU/AG-HIGH SCHOOL in another tiny country town in Mississippi, previously attended by my momma and aunt and uncle. As a High School student in the chior my LOVE of classical music only heightened. Music meant the world to me. I also played Tenor-Sax as an advid member of the band. I now play this for my 5 children. This was a fantastic performance!!! Eternally thankful for this artform.🥰🥰🥰🥰

I have heard this piece live every year since 1969 and this year can’t as I’m recovering from surgery. So I scanned KZbin for one I could watch as I listened and thank God found this sparkling gem. Stunning in its clarity and joyful pace. All four voices flawless and with personality. A right sized chorus. Thank you to all the artists, and to the business folks who enabled this.

Jeff First, recover well. I have sung this live every year since 1967, both as a soloist and chorus, so I understand your attachment to this tradition. There were a couple of times I wished for a slightly slower pace ( Pastoral Symphony) but that’s nit picking. A sterling job by soloists, orchestra and chorus.

For those interested the venue is L'Abbeye de la Chaise Dieu near Lavaudieu, France. The Abbey is a famous 14th Century church. In the concert you can see a tomb in the audience, which is a rare Papal tomb not in the Vatican, of Clement VI. Also note the mediaeval mural going round the wall near the altar showing a Danse Macarbe.

"Fantastic performance," a hackneyed phrase to be sure but it took just a few minutes of listening to this performance to realize that something very special was occurring on that platform. I have loved Handel's Messiah for nearly all of my 70+ years but have never been so moved, so enthralled, so aware of the many nuances and subtle interplays of this magnificent work until tonight. My heavens how could the audience remain in their seats after so powerful a rendition of what is unarguably the greatest oratorio ever written.

Apart from this version simply being alive!!! (it is gloriously vibrant,) I love the fact the soloists are dressed similarly to the orchestra, not as grand entities, but all beautifully recounting each prophecy and scripture such that the glory go to the One who indeed deserves all glory! Thank you from the bottom of my heart to each of you who were part of this glorious rendition of this wonderful work, including those who recorded it for us all to rejoice in ❤🎶❤

If Handel was alive to witness such an excellent and exceptional performance of his work, he would have been moved emotionally. The total ensemble from the conductor, the soloists and the chorus were all transformed during this performance. Their souls were lifted, raised to a divine place and they delved into their souls to deliver such an exquisite rendition. Indeed the trumpet sounded, the orchestra responded, and the singers were all changed during this performance 👏 Even the dead were raised incorruptible! The best performance of Handel's Messiah have ever heard.

With all that is going on in the world, the evil that is mounting and manifesting itself, listening to Handel's Messiah brings me great peace and joy knowing that God is in control. He sent his Son to be the propitiator for Man. What a wonderful recording. Thank you so much for lifting my spirits in these troubling times. Every country who is at war, whether a civil war or against other nations, should have to listen to Handel's "Messiah" before taking up arms. It doesn't matter what religion one is. This symphony is universal in its hopes for peace and reconciliation. Also, how did these guys do this? The composers of yesteryear are absolutely amazing and impossible to replicate. I bow down to the musical excellence of these men.

My piano teacher in the late '50's, Mr Weber, was German. He was also our church organist and had nothing but contempt for the Messiah; he considered it to be "pagan music"! He influenced me against carefully listening to this masterpiece until I reached my 30's! I guess I've made up for lost time. This recording is my favorite of all the versions I have ever heard.

TO GOD ALONE BE ALL THE GLORY. Handel Proved that Jesus is The Messiah. Hallelujah. Amen. This Performance gives such a joy simplicity and clarity. The conductor interpret as modernized version Messiah. 1 Chronicles 29:11 - 13 11. Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. 12. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. 13. Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.

One of the best performances. The Messiah is such a monumental work that it can end up sounding a bit ponderous. This one is lively!
@nedgrant6779
@nedgrant6779 8 ай бұрын
Now that’s it’s being played more often on replicated period instruments (gut strings, etc) and period-sized orchestras, as this version is - as it was originally performed, and meant to be performed - it is less ponderous than when played by a modern, 80-piece orchestra. Thus, it’s a “low-fat, no-fat” version: de-light-ful!

I confess I have never been brought to my knees, prostrated into submission, gasping to catch my breath, tearful and spine tingling until I sat before this performance. Rare is a version which executes exacting perfection of a timeless piece , where other attempts pale. Colleagues , friends, relatives are equally enamored at their initial encounter with this masterpiece.

The people never heard anything like this when it was first played. "What is this?" "What do my ears hear?" "What do I listen to?" It is a story, an experience, a triumph, an ecstasy, a supreme uplifting, a superlative bonding and attainment of human spirit. Thank you Mr. Handel.

Thank you for this God-fearing performance (for me) as it turned my thoughts and heart to Christ who is to come again but not as a Baby in Bethlehem but as 'Judge.' The song "Who shall stand when He appeareth" Wow! That is food for thoughts! What then shall we do? Pleasing our own selves while we have breath or total surrender to His Lordship, take up our Crosses and follow Him? For me, I will surrender and carry my cross and follow Him. Blessings!

There are so many beautiful " Messiahs " - what i really like about this one, is that appropriate reverence is maintained - at the same time as adding so much excitement throughout ... ... very unusual ..

Along with all the other kudos for this amazing performance, let's give credit to the videographers, who captured the spirit and the beauty of these young people so well. I have sung in many Messiahs, and I know how difficult it is to get the entrances so sharp, the runs so clear, the diction so perfect- and assume English is a second language for these Czechs. A heavenly Messiah.
