G Fast broadband what is it? (Fibre Max 2 from EE Review)
In this video we try out the new G.Fast broadband and explain what it is and how its installed.
We went for the top package from EE, The Fibre max 2. This takes advantage of the G.Fast hubs BT have been installing around the UK.
As long as your within 300m of your nearest G Fast Hub you should also be able to have G Fast broadband installed, its now available to more than 2 million home around the UK.

NeedlessEscape Yes it is, any wifi/broadband above 25mbps is considered good for gaming, uploading, downloading etc

@@Asroxx. I gamed on 15mbps down and 0.9mbps upload from BT for years until fttc came to my road. Now I have 65mbps down and 19mbps up but it only feels slightly more responsive

Additional network switch? That's an Openreach Modem, not a switch - dont confuse people. You'll be provided with an Openreach modem, which also has to be a G.Fast modem MT992 not a standard Openreach modem, if you take G.Fast from TalkTalk, ZEN, or EE where as if you take G.Fast from either BT or Sky, the modem is part of the Hub which they'll provide as one device.

After going back and fourth with them, about speeds. I’m only getting 200-225. after having so many engineers over as well, they finally escalated it to BT and they said that the minimum guaranteed speed they offer over gfast is 179. I’m getting above 179, so in the eyes of BT there is nothing to “fix. I’ve now got a cheaper plan, but I really did want at least something closer to 300😳

Hanzalah P getting these speeds through existing infrastructure is was never going to be easy and unless your on the doorstep to the g fast hub you will never get the best speeds. I’m surprised they have invested so much into such a limited product in my eyes fibre would have been the best long term solution

@@MattsTopTech But it *is* fibre - to the cabinet (which is the proper term for the street boxes). G.Fast is a boost to FTTC - not those with copper all the way to the exchange.

chris ross g fast is just the standard we use from the FTTC to people’s home through existing cables but due to the high frequency involved it has limited range. Great for those that live next to the cabinet

Have you heard of AC WiFi? I'm with Plusnet and they are offering almost a similar products with BT but cheaper. But thinking of getting EE broadband. Any advice?

Gino Guillermo plusnet offer some of the cheapest deals on internet packages right now in the UK and are a good choice if you ask me. AC is just the standard of Wi-Fi that the router will provide in theory it will offer Wi-Fi 3x faster than the previous standard but in the real world this doesn’t really make much difference. You will get AC standard from all ISPs so don’t let this fool you into thinking plusnet has the advantage

Just had G.fast installed early days but seen 110down/15up and 80down/20up. I was getting 50down/20up on VDSL2. I'd rather have more upload speed.

I suggest you check the broadband EE speed every week. They give you half the speed you signed in the contract. The network is not good at all, and make sure that the KZbin comments are closed due to criticism.I canceled my contract

to be honest i haven't had any issues with it, even the first few day i had no issues. the first few days can be a little all over the place while it gets optimised i believe

The internet is really good we haven't had any issues since having it put in a couple of months ago! it takes around 15 min to download games now and minutes to upload videos. i would highly recommend it if your a heavy user and can get your moneys worth from it. just keep in mind a lot of speed is lost through WIFI so to take full advantage you do need to be hard wired in

Matts Top Tech thanks for the reply, I’m on the virgin M350 at the moment but they been playing up recently so looking for 300meg plus with upload as good as Virgin Media. EE are looking like a contender then.

From what the engineer told me the package from BT includes a router with built in G Fast receiver so no need for the extra switch like we have with EE, just something to consider, strange when BT now own EE.

@@MattsTopTech I know this is old but, it's not a switch, it's a modem and having it independent from the router is actually a good thing and can be more stable and get more speed.

EE broadband is shit! Don't waste your money on it. I live in the m13 area of Manchester and I can't even watch a video on KZbin without it cutting out. I have to watch videos at like 140p resolution and even that buffers. My computer is fast enough (an i7 PC with 16gb Ram) so it's nothing to do with that. Also my kids can't even play their games online without getting kicked out of matches etc. And they wanna charge us £41 a month for this?
