Hey brother, love your videos. I have two pieces that have history. My haversack was my fathers, he used to carry it all the time for business. It’s canvas and leather. Small with no top hatch, only a zipper, but sits very comfortably. The other is my walking stick which I cut and varnished myself. I was going to suggest also, cinematically, that you lite your pipe with a twig or kindling instead of a lighter, but you did that in this video! I think it’s way more cool that way. Keep making great videos brother. Happy thanksgiving (American thing)

The Idea to reuse a Figetspinner Ballbearing ist great. I`ld like to adopt that and show it to my viewers. I enjoyed following your thoughts about Gear. Best things are the ones, that tell a story or inherit a memory. My most precious knive i found on a short evening walk few hundred meters away from home beside a vineyard: Its aproximatly 20.000 Years old made of jasper. Unfortunatly the tip is broken away. I love the tool you made to use for bow drilling and I need something like that to do my bow drilling with. The canteen you have reminds me of the military canteen I have and it was issued to me and I carry it and the case it came with on my military utility belt. I have a nice knife which I purchased years ago while still in the military and have on my utility belt, but will replace it with the newest knife I have to start fires with and to do cutting with. I just need a camping hatchet to add to my backpack and I have a folding knife which was issued to me while in the military and it is a wonderful tool so I have it in the same condition as it was when given to me because I know how to sharpen knives, and axes.

My oldest gear that I wear today and everyday is my leather belt 8 ounce cow hide I wore for more than 30 years and wore out I don't know how many buckle pins and is still a a perfect belt as good as new, that leather is the best. I used to worked leather some 40 years ago as I also built canoes and I gave up working leather and gave my tools more than once as I would gather a new kit of tools and work on some projects and after completion I would give it to a beginner apprentice as I had to move on, my first real call was to be an explorer so I always travelled light and went to places no one ever went and when I returned from these journeys I always had to start allover again... and now I think I'm settled till I leave for good. ✨🎡✨🐱🐉

@ordyhorizonrivieredunord7123 жыл бұрын
Your gear is perfect Sir , you pass the inspection , I always suggest not to sharpen knives and axes razor blade sharp as you want to be able to hold it by the blade without cutting yourself, when you show a knife to a friend you take it by the blade and present the handle so your friend can take it by the handle and inspect the blade, sharp enough to be a good utility knife and not enough that a child or inexperienced person could cut himself with by accident. That's the basic civility amongst bushmen as taught to me by my mother, and I have witnessed many accident that happened especially with axes, Once an inexperienced young man went logging on a very wet day and the axe slipped on the log on slippery sap under the bark and hit his foot and severed almost half of it through his boot, that in the woods half of mile afar from the nearest house and 80 miles from the first hospital. He never recovered his foot and it ended his bushcraft experience. I like the way Tom shows how to split wood in a safe manner as to avoid accidents. Easy does it, I was always too impetuous and fast and often fell of my bike as to say. I once visited an 83 year old man in a very remote land who was still splitting his kindling in the morning to heat his stove and relied on his son in law to split the larger logs. great video Tom You are our new Baden-Powell, you're gonna have to organize old school world wide...✨💥🎡💥✨✌😊👍🎪

One my gear has history as it's a long wood working tool we call couteau croche , usually forged from an old file, mine came to me as a broken hand bark shaver or 2 hand plane that had lost a handle and that I used as a machete in my youth to cut the over grown bushes and clear the ground for gardening, I later in my life forged it into a carving tool and I fitted a piece of moose antler for the handle, the perfect tool for wood carving, I gave it as a token of friendship as we often do, That's a tool that had a history long before me and will still have one long after I'm gone.✨🎡✨🐱🐉🎪🎏✨
