Fantastic Song. Love this video great job. A few years ago, in a vintage toy store I saw the HQ for sell complete in a box. I never owned one before. Made the mistake of waiting a few weeks, a d went back and it was sold. However they had another HQ just with no box. Oh well. Such a great playset. I love the movie Red Dawn. My friends and I would be playing that in the small town we live in and would riding 3 wheelers through the streets yelling out wolverines!

Joes was my first addiction 😂 unfortunately I didn't earn allowance until 1986 so the 83-85 Joes was like unreachable treasures I couldn't find anywhere. Thrift Stores and Yardsales was my best bet and I actually did find a few and I treated them like holy grails. I didn't find out that they was still available for a few years until the late 90s. I was devastated because I remember being 6 and begging my Mom to call Hasbro and ask if the had a Shipwreck or Firefly laying around. Now it's 2024 and I'm trying to start collecting these pieces of gold from my youth. I have about 20 figures but the stars still elude me because unfortunately I'm half way blind and my ability to earn money is really small scale and I'd never make enough for my Mount Rushmore of Joes: SHIPWRECK SPIRIT STORMSHADOW ZARTAN but watching your video sure brings me joy. Thank you

I woke to that on Christmas Morning too, I was shocked. It was constantly getting airlifted around my house and set up in different drop zones. I took issue 24 as an instruction booklet, apparently. Still my all time favorite play set. Awesome video, Dave!

Oh man that is awesome that you did that with it back then! Yeah man, it is designed so well. Even the Uss Flagg cabin is not as fun to play with. The Jail with beds put it on a pedistal. In fact when the Flagg came out I was like "where is the jail? It should have a jail"

Great video. Amazing that you have 7 in various states, impressive tp army build forts. Im not sure I will ever find one in the wild in Oz, and as I have started Joes late, not sure I will ever be able to afford one. But to own one would be fantastic and your review just reinforces the joy for kids of all ages in owning this wonderful playset.

Always been fascinated by the lines use of the phrase "the enemy" and "cobra command". Do you suppose there was a point in the development process where the title and look of "cobra commander" was intended to be a generic, troop builder field general and not a specific individual personal pronoun?

What an excellent question! I remember in the first comics cobra was very basic. And it was basic in a good way because it was very eerie. We knew little about this terrorist group called cobra command. it was mysterious. Hidden. I do think that yes in a way "cobra commander" was a bit of an after thought as they were at first just happy having this "enemy" group faceless terrorists to be enemies of this new task force. Larry Hama in interviews has said that they only had gi.joe characters artwork/sketches when they first proposed it in 1981. And in the meeting - someone asked - well. who are they going to fight?? are they all just going to walk around, march and do KP duty? I will include this in my next video! I don't think I answered your question... I think my answer is - yes that is very possible
