GI Joe Outback: Action Figure, Comic Book, Cartoon - We Had That! Everything I know about this awesome vintage character from GI Joe's Real American Hero 1987 line! By the time the 6th wave of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero action figures came out in 1987, my excitement was starting to wane. Some of the figures just didn't fit into what I thought of as an elite military line. However, there were also several awesome figures as well. The GI Joe Team Survivalist, Outback, was one of the good ones and if he'd been released a few years earlier, he could have been part of my Joe team when I was most into the line. In this video, I
go over everything I know about the Hasbro Outback action figure and his appearances in the Marvel comic books and G.I. Joe cartoon series!

I remember getting Outback he was a great figure. I especially liked him because he looked like our neighbor, Mike who was a biker and had the big red beard. I remember showing him the figure and him and he had a good laugh about it. He told me years later that he went out and bought one the next day. That's one of the best things about the line was how grounded but visually interesting the figures were. It's something that a lot of big lines today can't touch. Any way great video as always!

he was one of my favorite, all because of the story from the comic book. And I remember that story arc. Made me think of the Vets of the 60's

Yes I have Outback and I have those issues that he appeared and I thought that was her pretty cool I used him a lot here are there towards the end of my GI Joe Adventures cuz I always thought he was cool looking he had a lot of cool gear I tried to keep it all with him I don't know if I still have the flashlight though

I would guess that the flashlight is missing from a lot of Outback figures! It's just so small, it was probably difficult to keep up with if the connection to his leg ever became loose!

@@WeHadThat yeah great to talk to people that have the same passion in common. You should do a collection vid bro. I will do an update soon. Have quite some vintage toys. Gi Joe, Transformers, MASK, Star Wars. Also have the Masters of the Universe vintage collection. Love that they look more like the Filmation cartoon. But my main focus is Masterpiece and 3rs party Transformers. I will do a collection update soon. Haven't made a vid in a year😅

The backpack looks a lot like an ALICE rucksack which used to be standard issue in the US Army for decades.

I didn't know that. Were they really that big?
@Javajoinjun
@Javajoinjun 4 жыл бұрын
@@WeHadThat There were two sizes I think, but this is the standard one. It was pretty big... I seem to recall an even larger one (for radios?) that was not as common, but this was the common one. It differs in that it has straps (no convenient hole in the center of real people's backs). The straps were a prominent feature that had special quick release tabs - great for those unexpected ambushes. image.sportsmansguide.com/adimgs/l/6/618781i_ts.jpg

@@Javajoinjun Thanks for the link! Seeing it worn in the photo it just seems smaller than the one with the figure, but I can definitely see how this pack was probably the inspiration for the one that came with Outback!

I lost the flash light within seconds of opening the package. I was 4 it happens! I think but am not totally sure that mine now sits with the last of my joes not broken in a bag inside another bag in a storage tub. A momment of silence for all those who have been lost. Or had decrepit O rings
@WeHadThat

Those O rings! I've been slowly replacing mine over the last year. Only a few are still good, but most have either broken or stretched out. There are a few figures that I can't get the screw out of the back, but I'm certainly glad that I could fix so many of them!

For some reason, about a dozen of my childhood GI Joes are missing...weapons and file cards too which is strange because I kept all of the file cards together in one box, the figures together in another box, and the weapons in a different container. I suspect foul play -haha! Most of the missing figures are from 1986 and 1987. Law & Order are among the M.I.A.
