Gökbey, Turkey's indigenous utility helicopter, made its debut in the international arena.
Making its first international flight at the prestigious Farnborough Airshow in the UK, Gökbey received great acclaim from the audience.
Developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), GÖKBEY made its international debut at the prestigious Farnborough Airshow.
On the first day of the Farnborough International Airshow, one of the most prestigious events of the aviation, defense and space industry in the world, GÖKBEY, one of Turkey's national aircraft developed by TAI with indigenous facilities, performed a seven-minute flight demonstration within the scope of the event.
GÖKBEY, Turkey's first indigenous helicopter, demonstrated Turkey's progress in aviation technology and its competitiveness in the international arena with its first international flight show.
The certification of Gökbey as a military platform has come to an end. Its first delivery is planned for the coming months. So far, over a thousand hours of test flights have been performed with four prototype helicopters. The flights were carried out at sea level, at medium altitude in Ankara and at high altitude in Eastern Anatolia.
All development envelopes of the helicopter were opened. The Gökbey helicopter can fly up to 20 thousand feet and stay in the air for nearly four hours. Gökbey has a range of 750 kilometers. With these values, Gökbey stands out as a highly competitive product.
Gökbey will operate in challenging conditions with its high maneuverability. In this way, it can be used in personnel transportation, search and rescue and ambulance activities, offshore flights for transportation to oil exploration platforms in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, fire extinguishing activities, as well as in many areas in the civilian sector.
The first deliveries of Gökbey will be made with an imported engine. Upon completion of the tests to be conducted with the indigenous TS1400 engine, deliveries will continue with the indigenous engine.
Having realized its first export in the helicopter class with the Atak helicopter, TAI aims to add new rings to this success with the Gökbey helicopter.
With its high performance, wide range of uses and affordable cost, Gökbey has the potential to have an important place in the helicopter market.
