G&L L2500 Demo (Finger Style)

This is a demo recording I made with my US-made G&L L2500 bass, in order to demonstrate its tonal versatility.
Here's how the recording is made:
- L2500 into an Orange Terror Bass 1000 head. Line out directly to the sound card.
- Settings on amp: Bass @ 10 o'clock, Mid & Treble @ noon
- Settings on bass: Treble full open, Bass backed off 50%
- Recorded into Nuendo 4. Slight compression and EQ on the track. Slight limiter on the master bus.
These settings were not changed throughout the recording session. Volume differences between series/parallel and active/passive modes were balanced using the volume control on the bass.
The strings on the bass during the recording was a set of old DR Lo-Riders. So you will not hear any new string zing :)

This is a fantastic demo of the L2500. I have a 1997 model (first production run) and it came with Parallel/Coil Tap wiring instead of Series/Parallel. The coil tap wiring includes .1 microfarad capacitors on the grounded coil (aka the OMG! Wiring). I recently added a 4th switch to give me Series wiring as well as Coil Tap, but for some reason, my pickups seem to have much more mid-range than yours and the bass sounded annoyingly "nasal". I'm starting to wonder if G&L rewound the pickups with less midrange post 1997... I more recently Rewired that 4th switch to swap between inner and outer coils when in Coil-Tap mode instead of series .

Thanks! Mine originally came with the OMG caps, too. I found them to darken the sound a bit too much for my tastes, so I removed them.

Just change the wire from one pickup on selector, for example if you have black and white wire, just flip it .

@@leonidis6225 That's so true! It's a cut-only passive EQ. There's loads of bass and treble in the pickups so you can shape by cutting. That's why it sounds so organic. I've had this bass since 11 years and it's here to stay...

I bought a L2500 usa. Whenever I switch to active or active treble boost, there is always a distortion hessing sound. Is this common or should I send for repair? I believe it's not the strong output cos I tried even with powerful amps and I even lower the volume output. Pls help!

+Sunny Lai, is it just strong hissing or is the sound distorted? If the sound distorted, it may be a sign of dead battery. Try with a fresh one.
