After adding G'mic to Gimp I was surprised by the long list of options and effects. Such a great tool, and fun to use. I'm ready for another art project, and now I have some ideas. Sometimes I forget that G'mic is there, but today I will make it a point to experiment some more. Thanks.

Thanks Dave just set it up on my laptop and it appears to work OK. Looks like a lot of exploring/experimenting but looks good fun.

Yes,, it's amazing. I added this plugin about 6 weeks ago and am very happy with it. You are right in that many of the routines are not computationally efficient. That is a small inconvenience for the price; i.e. free! You demonstrated some of the artistic GMIC utilities, but there are many hard core image editing utilities. Take a look at the Richardson-Lucy sharpening algorithm (Details) which many people recommend. Also, you might want to look at the Slice Luminosity algorithm (Lights & Shadows). There are many other goodies. I believe that this plugin further enhances Affinity's reputation relative to Photoshop (in my humble opinion).

Yes, there's huge amounts there. I'll check out your tips -- thanks!

I love the following presets which I highly recommend. Colors > Color Presets is an excellent group of color filters for just about any purpose. Repair > Inpaint are a group of really great selection healers, paint a color (red is default) and tweak the settings until you erase the object. Deformations > Morph [Interactive] is an actual morphing program (kit) within G'MIC! (Pronounced like "gimmick" BTW.) Take two photos and create a morph animation! (Read the directions.) This IS amazing!

Dave, the processing speed can be increased if you reduce your main image size in Documents, Resize, from eg 4000 by whatever pixels to say 2000 by whatever... and some of the filters can be speeded up by choosing more than one computing thread in the options sliders. Agreed though, that Gmic is a fantastic resource for AP!
@tompatton20863 жыл бұрын
G'mic can also remove hot pixels but unfortunately, you'll lose some detail as well. With all of the different options within the plugin, it would be great if there was a KZbin channel demonstrating and explaining what each of the controls will do.

The only thing keeping me from using this tool is that it gives you a different result from the preview, maybe the image size is the issue, but again, I don't wanna scale the image to apply the effect.

Fair enough. Thanks for the note.

G'mic has been around for years, very popular in GIMP. It's powerful but takes some learning to get the best out of it. If you want to stack changes use apply wait for the effect to be applied and then move to the next feature to with to use and so on press ok to return to affinity.

Sorry, but this does not work for me. I made a new file, clicked on the add in Photoshop plugins, clicked on the file containing the GMic files, restarted and nothing there. I tried it three times, each time stopping and starting your video to make sure I had not missed anything, but still no luck!

Wasn't there a G'MIC video last month or so? Anyway, I tried it then on my i5 8Gb RAM PC and it's really, really no-fun slow. Your high power machine looks reasonably okay for that plugin, so I wonder, you have any GPU? I am in for some new hardware in 2021 and start to look around for some value for money setups. Looks really like a very good plugin to have.

Yes, I have GPU. The machine is a custom build from Chillblast. They were very helpful on the phone.

Seems to do many of the same things possible using Topaz software like Simplify/Abstraction, AI Remix, Impression, etc. For free though, correct?

Yup. Totally free. Open Source and all that.

I guess you might have missed a step. Did you download the zip file ok?. Connect to it in Edit/Preferences/Plugins? Restart AP?
@peterusher20203 жыл бұрын
Guess I too, am missing something. Created the folder but edit- preferences-photoshop plugins doesn’t find it. Also getting warnings of unsafe extensions, so maybe Windows blocking installation.

Well, I persevered and finally got the plug-in installed. There was no automatic recognition of the plug-in and it required a manual insertion and I am enjoying exploring the vast array of adjustments. Perhaps those who are still unable to use the plug-in forgot, as I did, to have a duplicated image open in Affinity. Also there is a box to tick referring to unknown sources in the lower left of the search box. Not sure if it is necessary to tick but probably is.
