I can get into my 64 yr old head, and get into my young self lying in the warm mud of a Glastonbury night, stoned on pure unfiddled with maroc, black oil... did we eat? I can not remember, nor how I got there or back. The feeling was bliss, put of the ordinary world, being beought into the universe on the magical musical virtuosity, whimsical mania, dark foreboding strands of life, witchy wailings, medarive trance dance ( and God did we dance with freedom) of early Gong. .... I keep their music alive in my home 🙌 I am sometimes lost without their presence in this world.

Hey up, mate - I'm not far behind you, thought I'd check in... Gotta feel sorry for the kids these days, they're never going to experience the feeling you described, and it's a tough one to explain - I know, I've tried. But I know exactly what you're talking about, and keep it alive in my house, too. They may not be present in the world, but they left a wonderful legacy of magical music, which is more than most people can say. Keep up the good work, we're still out here - there are dozens of us!

Gong's greatest album in my opinion. Such a great amalgam of all the good things about Gong, the blend of mysticism and absurdity in the lyrics, the spaced out synth/space whisper/glissando guitar ambience, the freaked out jazzy grooves, the crazy sax solo's, and it all works together. I've been coming back to it for the past 23 years ever since discovering it in my wild mushroom days. It still sounds as amazing as it did back then.

At first I was prepared to be outraged - however if turned out to be a revelation. Obviously, some of the tracks are better than others but some of them are outstanding, especially 'Master Builder' by the Shamen and 'A Sprinkling of Clouds' by Steve Hillage's latest project, System 7... That one, for me, is bloody brilliant - especially because he's actually playing in the original version (which I love) but then totally makes something really incredible, recognisable but completely new, too. Anyway, I'm going to stop waffling on and try to find you the link Aha! kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2aYm2uVZquFpaMsi=S9bysx2ujCH4E5U0 Master Builder. A long time ago, when I became a Punk, I thought that GONG was ridiculous. But in fact, they are not. They have never been. Punk was ridiculous instead. GONG and precisely the albums they made in between 1971 and 1974 are the most pure of my heart until today. DAEVID was a Giant, and I owe him my personality. Thank you GONG Family & all the best to you §
@ruthmckay90862 жыл бұрын
Neither are ridiculous, in fact both are important in their own way. When I was younger, I decided I hated most of my record collection and got rid... I only liked this kind of music or that, and hated everything else. Years later I understood how daft I'd been, and learnt to open myself to more influences, not cut myself off. Don't cut the punk part of your history out, it's part of you!

This is funny. Kinda the inverse of my journey. I was a child of prog in the 70’s. Neber got to see this version of Gong but did see Pierre’s version. Anywho it wasn’t till later that I came to appreciate 3 chord garage rock and punk. It’s funny. I can rock to Gong or Television. My favorite punkish bands are kinda elevated like the aforementioned and the Stranglers. We were lucky having access to so much good music back then.

@@UdiKoomran Yes but it was definitely time for Daevid to leave to record those two fantastic solo albums in Deya. Leaving Gong in the hands of Steve Hillage And Miquette. You can tell by listening to live at Sherwood Forest the 'Fish Rising' songs Hillage went on to do and the 'Shamal: stuff the rest went on to do didn't blend together. Tim Blake made a great solo album too. I never really bothered with the stuff after 'You' not until Daevid returned years later.

Rest in peace, Daevid Allen🙏🏼💙 One of the few albums I would consider to be wholly perfect. Drummer Pierre Moerlen's performance alone is utterly spectacular! This was an electric gathering of some of the finest musicians to ever walk the Earth free to extemporise over pre-figured foundations in the krautrock tradition. The album enraptures you from the very beginning and only accumulates further spellbinding intensity as it goes on, climaxing in the orgasmic freeform jamming of "The Isle of Everywhere" before seguing into an epic denouement for the entire "Radio Gnome" trilogy (precedes by "Flying Teapot" and "Angel's Egg"), which deftly combines the psychedelic, the funky and the jazzy facets of Gong into a grand summary of their musical vision thus far, and in effect a farewell to Daevid Allen's rendition of Gong and its associated mythology.

Мне 67 .Gong начал слушать довольно поздно, но очень активно. Начал с альбома Shamal.В течении десятка лет gong был для меня ведущей командой. Считаю ,что ранний gong весь хорош, и что-то поставить выше я не в состоянии.

Had he been a solo artist Daevid Allen could be described as the "European Frank Zappa" (when actually from Australia). doing the music he wanted with whom he wanted. Freedom!

Actually, he wrote very little music here. Most of it, as in the previous album, came from Blake, Hillage, Moerlen and Malherbe. In fact, Malherbe also wrote some lyrics.

"YOU" is a good, a beautiful, but not the appropriate end of the Teapot-Trilogy. I feel this end came too soon and that the Saga should have gone on further. I'm quite sure, at least 2 more albums would have been possible to continue the progression, musically, philosophically & spiritually. One night DAEVID couldn't enter the scene anymore, he felt blocked. It was a mistake of Moerlen to take-over the patrimonial and the name. DAEVID proofed that he's the owner. With NY GONG, with PLANET GONG, and ever since until his death. God bless all Gong-People still alive ! C;

No, it was as it was meant to be. Anyway, Allen retook the concept many years later, so we can now say that the concept is totally complete.
