So nice to hear the trumpet of the baroque period (not the baroque trumpet) played so beautifully. The dialogue between trumpet and violin is exquisite. And what a fine orchestra, with such excellent musicians.
@mijola2476 Жыл бұрын
perhaps you could enlighten us as to the difference between 'the trumpet of the baroque period' and 'the baroque trumpet'.
@bobbarclay8683 Жыл бұрын
@@mijola2476 The trumpet used in the baroque period was a natural trumpet, like the one used in this recording, played on the lips and held in one hand. The so-called "baroque trumpet" used in most orchestras is an invention of the 1960s passed off by the unscrupulous as the real thing. It has fingerholes and must be held in two hands, and is thus a completely obvious anachronism. My book "Henry VIII's Motorcycle" (available on Amazon) gives an excellent overview of this long-running confusion. With best wishes for the season!

@@bobbarclay8683 thank goodness for someone else who is saying what I've thought about those brass things perforated "vented" with holes. If you had shown up with one of those in the 1600's the guild would most likely smashed in your front teeth.

It’s clear that every single member of the orchestra here was committed to one goal - namely, perfection. It’s apparent in their body language and expressions. These guys love this music as much as we do listening to them. Thanks

It’s so awesome to discover how many excellent and relatively unknown ensembles are playing seldom heard pieces by famous composers such as Telemann, which are available to us on the internet! And this is one of them! I really have to exclaim about the valveless “trumpet” player, whose mastery of his instrument and the extremely difficult music is nothing less than stunning!

Another wonderful performance from this great little orchestra. I'm beginning to appreciate the attractive personalities of the regular musicians! Is it my imagination, or do they seem to have more fun playing Telemann than other composers? Well, he is an (almost) local boy....but I have always thought that the composer's special way with the Baroque, which not only blends nearly seamlessly French and Italian styles, but encapsulates deep folk influences which surface spontaneously (as in the delightful rigaudon!) brings wide audience appeal. It certainly did in the 1700s, and can do today!
@Rik772 жыл бұрын
Having played a lot of telemann, there is something about his music that is both extremely satisfying to play (he writes very well for the instrumrnts without being too hard to play perhaos), and every time his music works in performance and audiences love it. Thats a rare quality for a composer to be both extremely fun to play and come alive for audiences very easily and naturally.

Aaahahah!
