I don't stick to just g1, bayverse, etc. , I try to have a bit of everything. So personally, I believe that no continuity is better than the other. G1 Elitists single handedly are the problem with transformers. literally Demanding the entire franchise regress into those stupid boxy bucket head designs that resemble how robots used to look back in 80s sitcoms when they would cook dinner for the two rambunctious kid character's, like Zorbo or Rosie the robot. and there go Hasbro feeding off of the prophets and ruining their market going forward by regressing away from modern robot feeling character's like Bay-verse or Prime and making stupid G1 homage design's that look literally as cheap a concept as the cartoon they came from, and also completely sterilizing their creativity with this formula also. (example) I used to watch Transformers Prime and wonder what kind of unique design's Arcee would have in future projects, and now every time I see her she has those same Freakin Princess Lea buns and backpack, leave a like if you miss movie Ironhide.

The G1 lore is severely flawed, mainly the very first cartoon and its Japanese-original sequels. But, if not for G1, BEAST WARS and the IDW comics (2005 - 2018) wouldn't be possible at all. Suprisingly, despite IDW taking visual cues from G1, it had its own identity, straying from your average good-vs-evil, enriching the lore with politics, character development, and worldbuilding, thus being not only my favorite Transformers comics to date, but also one of the best Transformers storylines ever created. BEAST WARS, despite aging like the milk, still holds up to this day because, unlike the original cartoon, it was a wise choice by Mainframe to restrict themselves to using the characters they were only able to work with, making them fan favorites, like Optimus Primal (MY Optimus forever, BTW), Dinobot, Rattrap, and (my personal favorite Maximal) Depth-Charge. The original RiD (CAR ROBOTS) served as the first reboot to the brand after BEAST MACHINES failed, and revived it successfully, leading to the Unicron Trilogy. For crying aloud, even if I'm far from the biggest fan of the Bayformers saga, those movies still have their benefits, including turning once unknown characters like Ratchet and Barricade into major characters of the franchise, even being influential to my favorite Transformers cartoon ever: ANIMATED . Finally, Impactor, known only to comic book readers, was one of the very good things about the dreadful WFC trilogy by Netflix despite being G1ish. The original G1 cartoon is just OK, paling in comparison to other series, like, for instance, BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES.

Particularly young Gen X and Older Millennial men can get REALLY nasty. Believe it or not, I’ve left social collector groups over it because their attitudes gave way to other types of hate, and it was encouraged BY the group admins! So, here are my takes regarding Generation One and my own mindset: I don't hate the non-Generation One series, but ultimately, Generation One is what most people identify with and is the gold standard from which all other ideas flow. The success of the later shows, comics, and movies (I suppose video games if you count the Activision content that came out in 2010 / 2012). My issue is more execution oriented whether story or aesthetic and I think I have a potential solution (really modeled on the success of Bandai / Sunrise's handling of Gundam). My 'definitive G1' in terms of storytelling potential, honoring the history of what came before, the way the characters look, etc... is probably Dreamwave Comics' Generation One continuity as it melded ideas from both the Sunbow Animated series, Marvel Comics US and UK, and was to tie into Beast Wars Transformers. I understand that nowadays, it's a very niche thing among fans since the stuff produced by Dreamwave was really 3 years of content or so. I also appreciate that the kept the original alternate modes from the 1980s because for me at least, everything else is 'inspired by', but not actually G1, so I consider IDW Comics, Skybound, etc. to be completely different things with hits and misses of their own. I also appreciate some of the concepts that Japan's G1 contributed to with their own unique characters post Season 3 US / Transformers 2010 series and the same with Beast Wars II and Neo. I would say that I'm more liberal minded now than I was when I first saw Beast Wars (it wasn't for me, but I thought the CGI looked terrible and I was 13 when it first aired). Only years later would it be the character development and story that really won me over when I was 19 / 20 in college. With that said, here are my critiques of the non-G1 stuff: Beast Wars started off with terrible CGI but does get better with Season 2 onwards; Beast Machines relies too heavily on drones and while I understand the appeal of a smaller cast, I would've liked more Maximals, Vehicons, and heck even Predacons to have shown up; also this is a great show on its own, but it really is bad as a continuation of Beast Wars, so it's best to see this as something separate. Beast Wars II and Neo: They're okay, I don't hate them, I think Neo does a lot to touch base with the prior G1 history with the re-emergence of Unicron as a threat and I love nods and acknowledgements of past history because it makes things feel a bit more organic. Unfortunately this starts the trend of overusing Unicron, though I'd argue that's more the Armada-verse that did that. I thought Car Robots / 2001 Robots In Disguise was okay and just happy to see Autobots and Decepticons / Predacons again. Many of the vehicles and robot modes are amazing even though really outside of Gigatron / Megatron, only the Autobots get new molds. I don't remember much about the story though. The Armada-verse.... Lots of wasted potential that I'd love to see revisited with better execution and planning. These shows relied too heavily on gimmicks whether it was Minicons, Energon weapons / Powerlinking, or Cyber Planet Keys to drive their stories and while I love the character designs, these shows are incredibly repetitive and just all over the place. Armada is a much better series by the second half, but all the good will that came about with character development and the hype for Energon just died after it was clear that none of the previous plot threads from Armada would be carried over and resolved. Cybertron / Galaxy Force feel like an entirely different disconnected show (probably because that's what it was intended to be), so things are really fubar. Not a fan of the overly simplified art style of Animated, but the voice talent, and stories really won me over and is one of my favorite non-G1 series. Prime is an excellent show in terms of look, music, voice talent and cast, with the writing being a bit weak at times and the fact that only Decepticons die (yes Cliffjumper dies in the first episode, but there's not enough to become really attached). It also seems that nearly ALL Cybetronians are on the verge of extinction, though I'm sure that's due to budget constraints. 2015 RID, what is this garbage? Its allegedly a follow-up to Prime but in no way does this feel connected storywise, visually, or just in terms of tone. Machinima's Prime Wars Trilogy is just terrible. There's no real sense of history or of what's going on and it's G1, but IDW, but not... wut? Netflix's War for Cybetron Trilogy is supposed to be another 'G1' but they kill of Magnus and a bunch of characters and some other stuff happens, and it just kind of ends with the threat of Unicron? No idea what this was trying to do and I'd rather not watch it again. Cyberverse... Why is a children's cartoon better than the stuff written for adults? Not my favorite, but I really love that it's very G1 inspired in the sense of recapping the Earth War, and then just doing their own thing later. Not a fan of the simplified art style, but this did have the feel of a well populated Cybertron. Don't really have a comment on Earthspark and I heard about the whole controversy of inserting modern day gender-identity politics, so I'm going to stay away from that which is sad, because it might actually be a worthwhile show (I saw the series pilot for free). All the Bay movies are just bad, convoluted messes with designs I'm not the biggest fan of. I think there are some very good elements in them, but as a whole, not so much which is funny because a lot of them are G1 episodes mashed together. To be more positive, the fight scenes are really well done, sometimes too much shaky can, but Revenge of the Fallen from Spike ...er "Sam" being chased by the Decepticon Pretender to the Forest Battle, everything is just gold. Age of Extinction started to give the Autobots a bit more character and even Prime has an actual character struggle in it. The two non-Bay films are just okay. Bumblebee probably is the best out of all of them and it feels very much like an 80s movie, maybe even the equivalent of an 80s blockbuster, with the two best Decepticons in the whole movie verse, because they're not just special effects but actual characters. Transformers One by far is the best of the movies, though my preference is for G1 animated movie. I think the idea of Sentinel Prime as a bad guy has been a bit overplayed, as well as making Optimus and Megatron friends pre-falling out and these are obviously influenced from the non-G1 parts of the franchise. The 13 Primes came from IDW and I' not sure I really like it to be honest. I think I like Dreamwave G1's Prime lineage better where there's only ever one Prime at any given time (Alpha Prime, Guardian Prime, Sentinel Prime, Optimus Prime, and finally Rodimus Prime). Anyways, that was quite a lot to type. I pray you had the patience to read through all of it!

Hell, Junko Komura's Sentais (before she wrote the banger that is Kamen Rider Gavv), why waste making a new MMPR when Zyuohger, Lupin vs Pat and Zenkaiger imo had a formula similar to MMPR with simplistic plots and something familiar to MMPR? So clearly, the fans didn't see that there are seasons that still adhere to that. Grew up with G1 in the 80s. outside of the toys outgrew it 20+ years ago. I just don't have the attention span for the older cartoon, and find most shows BWs onwards significantly more interesting and watchable. Of course that was until Prime end when I no longer was really the target audience for the more kid friendly iterations until maybe now with TFO. Arguably the same could be said with The Netflix series but never bothered with them as I was pretty much done with most TF media other than collecting the toys. Love the variety of toys we've been recently getting, and it's almost necessary at this point as how many times can Hasbro reproduce the same figure/character year without end. Variety I feel is quickly becoming the life line of the entire franchise at this point, and given how profitable SS and it's subline are it's impossible not to see that.

Nothing wrong with preferences. As long as people don’t think their opinion is the only right one. You’re entitled to your opinion and you’re free to express it. But you have to accept some people will like things you don’t and won’t like things you do. Just wish everyone would respect each other even if they disagree. Goes for fans of all generations.

These "GeeWun" do not comprehend that any 00's to 2020's fans are not from the 80's! Like why should they liked something they weren't borned in???? Like the 80's and 90's are a product of their time. Like these GeeWun should celebrate that it was BW, Bayverse or even Earthspark that made them a Transformers fan cos that their "childhood" in the same way how G1 cartoon was "my childhood"! It's like telling modern day Batman fans that they HAVE to liked the Golden Age Batman cos that where it all begin or I should liked the film "Casablanca" cos it is a renowned classic but I found the movie to be boring as shit! Like while I still loved the 86 movie but it mainly for the nostaglia reason as yeah, it is a heavily flaw film! As for Bumblebee movie, likewise I only liked the beginning as the rest of the film is just a boring version of The Iron Giant!

G1? More like G-lost!! Am I right?! Huh huh. Am I right?!! I have seen this stuff since the early 00s when RID 2001 started getting reported on in magazines. I just do what I did then. Roll my eyes and simply walk away. If it wasn't for Beast Wars, there would be no Transformers. If it wasn't for the bayverse, there would be no Transformers. The populaty of those lines and cartoon and movies saved Transformers. G1 fans can give all the credit to G1 they want, but without Beast Wars and the Bayverse, Transformers would have ended up another forgotten dead franchise in the vein of Bravestar or Silver Hawks.

I feel like I like both G1 and Beast Wars. To be frank, they have great qualities that are better than each other. G1: -It kickstarted the Transformers franchise. -It focused on the staple aspect of robots transforming into robotic stuff. -They have Autobot dinosaurs, called/in the form of the Dinobots, yeah I’m a dinosaur lover, so this is a treat for me, that why I also don’t get upset over the likes of Trypticon or the Dino Force (from Victory), because even though they are bad (yeah, I don’t like bad guys), I at least still have the Dinobots. Yeah I love good-aligned dinosaurs, so this is what G1 did better (not sure about superiorly) than Beast Wars which unfortunately portrayed all the dinosaur-alt-mode Transformers (as well as the one’s with herbivorous dinosaur alt-modes) as bad guys/Predacons (I get that the herbivores aren’t completely safe to haphazardly be around, but still), before you mention Dinobot, he was originally a Predacon, as for his recoloured doppelgänger, Grimlock, he didn’t appear in the show. Worse, when there were (more) dinosaur-alt-mode-Maximals/Transformers that are Maximals, they were made for the poorly received Beast Machines. I know, it is/it’s a bad reason to like anything, but like I’ve said before, I love dinosaurs. -In Beast Wars, when the Maximals or Predacons say their activation codes (“Maximise!” or “Terrorise!”), they go from Beast to Robot mode, even though I get the meaning of the activation codes, it still feels weird for me because. It implies that their Beast Modes are their normal form and that their robot modes are an enhanced form. G1 doesn’t use this/that, having them transform without saying anything to activate it, making it clear or allowable to treat it that their normal modes are their robot modes, after all, they are called Robots in disguise, not vehicles/beasts in disguise. Beast Wars: -It feels unique to see Transformers transform into an organic creature (though they I feel like it works better as toys/in toy form). -It fixed the problem (in G1) where (nearly) every animal-alt-mode Transformers (especially the ones that transform into modern animals like mammals, birds, etc) were unfortunately bad guys/Decepticons, now that nearly every Maximal transform into animals. I say this as/because I’m an animal lover. Yeah, I know it’s still a bad reason to like something, but still. What do you think?

I may of the very few that actually love the early gen of g1 masterpiece figures, with the MP-3 starscream as it looked more like a model aircraft than a toy because i like the idea of an actual model vehicle that can transform, and i jnow the michael bay movies aren't perfect, i love their designs from seeing the mechanics behind their design and see everything functio and they have some good toys at the time as well

G1 has some good designs, but not the best per se; some Transformers series post-G1 have better designs. For example… - Cybertron has my favorite version of Jetfire. (I also like his new Australian accent, fight me) - Prime has my favorite versions of Arcee and Smokescreen. (Arcee is now indigo, so what? I like it, and same with Smokescreen being white) The infamous Transformers: Earthspark, for whatever reason, has so many designs heavily based on G1, which I am not crazy about. In terms of the show itself, coming from a Gen Z man, G1 is fine, but I enjoy both Prime, and also even Cybertron much more than I do G1. (I watched Prime, and I am currently watching Cybertron (and G1))

I am 50 year old G1 collector/fan/enthusist and I have so much to say but I'll try and keep it brief. I stay away from all this online hate. I am apart of only certain online groups due to it. I watched and enjoyed many versions of TFs before Bay 2007 movie came out, and I remember the weird psycho hate for it before it even came out. I said just enjoy it, its TFs but I lost friends cause it wasn't G1 and the hate they had for it. It really made me depressed. Energon was one of the best toy series and I still have all the Energon and other toys that came out. Still love them now. They hold up even to today's. But now days I buy mainly G1. I've bought few other TFs or transforming robot toys (52Toys) but due to space and money I stick with G1. I have noticed that G1 does sell the best. When other series come out, my wallet gets well-deserved break. I don't mind.

Meh, I may not care for G1 or those G1 elitists much, but usually the problem I have with the Transformers fandom nowadays is that the other Transformers fans who grew up with the same favorites as me such as the Unicron Trilogy,Bayverse,Animated, or Prime etc. or maybe yet also always praise Travis Knight's Bumblebee movie would always bash me or call me names whenever I pick out many new favorites after my old ones. For example: After growing up my old favorites, I found more favorites while they're also my guilty pleasures such as RID 2015,BotBots,ROTB, and TF ONE but the other Beast Wars,Unicron Trilogy,Bayverse, and Prime fans besides myself would bash me for it like they'd think I'm a traitor to my own childhood or something because they either don't like them or they just think that's "poor taste" or something, instead of patronizing me? they should atleast be happy I found new favorites such as TF ONE or RID 2015 atleast. Sheesh, and I thought that stupid "Disney vs. DreamWorks" trend was the most annoying topic that eveb I as a fan of both studios couldn't stand, maybe I should've looked into what Paramount and Nickelodeon have for now on after all lmao.

No one is going to doubt that G1 is the root of the franchise and I love it after I first saw the 2007 film, because it was interesting to know where Transformers began because when I was still in diapers I remember seeing RID 2001 on Fox Kids, then in like my elementary school years I saw the entire Unicron Trilogy on Cartoon Network's Toonami block and right after the 07 movie I got into Transformers more from Animated in 2008 then ROTF then Prime and eversince I've been a fan of Transformers collecting figures since 07 and hell I watched Beast Wars and it was comedic and action packed with tons of G1 references but for G1 elitists to complain about things being super accurate or show accurate to G1 is tiresome and it holds Transformers back from becoming more and it's basically gatekeeping new and younger fans from it and it's super toxic not to mention without the live action movies, Transformers would've never made it this far nor would G1 be acknowledged as it is.
