G1 Ratchet 4k Transformer Review

I still find it weird that Takara/Hasbro chose to use this mold as a Transformer, as in the toyline this mold came from (microman, microchange, I really can’t remember) this was never a robot, it was a mech for a tiny human figure to pilot. I don’t know if you already knew that or not, but I just find the history of early G1 Transformers really interesting.

Same here. The history of those early toys is extremely interesting. A lot of weird decisions were made too.

I'm pretty sure the reason they did this was the original japanese versions of Ironhide and Rachet came with seats and figures, and the seat was in the head mold. So Hasbro didn't give Them Proper heads. Again don't quote me on that as I don't fully remember.

I think the third party head actually makes it look worse because now he has weird low hanging shoulders. Before the windshield was his head and it worked. I actually really love the weird alien look to him and wish it wasn’t just ignored in every subsequent Ironhide and Ratchet remake

And I’m not 100% certain but I think the Red Cross was on the initial run of the toy and then subsequent versions were missing it because it was copyrighted and they had to remove it. Given that yours has a rub sign that would fit since the very first Ratchet toys from 1984 didn’t and the rub sign was added in 1985.

Them not giving him a proper head is one thing. But not making the face sticker look like the character baffles me.

I think the fact that the face is such a bad sticker is just ridiculous. What were they thinking?!

The funny thing is if you look at the box art, it looks like he has a face projected on his windshield, which may have been one of Hasbro’s initial ideas. Of course, that and the sticker face went out the window for the cartoon. 😆
