I never owned G1 Starscream as a kid growing up, but I did had his Decepticon jet partner G1 Skywarp which I got for free while moving into a duplex when I was in third grade at school, some boy who was living in the duplex before me left it behind had no wings, weapons, and the cockpit canopy was broken off, but I still transform Skywarp from vehicle to robot & I played with him anyways using my imagination I kept him for 4 years until I start going to junior high & my mom made me give up my toys to Goodwill all except for my G1 Outback which I kept for memories.

Right there with you G1 parts missing on most of my old toys, many still do. Just got my current reissue today, a few differences of note: the cockpit canopy is not tinted, hands have 5mm ports and a gun mode Megatron he can hold, eyes are painted instead of sticker detail. Great vid as always.

This reminds me of my first action fig that I got when I was three which was a broken winged swoop who had very limp wings. This allowed me to jerk him up and down violently to make the pterodactyl wings flap. I may not be an 80’s kid, but this gave me a healthy dose of early 2000’s nostalgia.

At least you had a transforming Starscream back then. My G1 Starscream was the Action Masters Starscream. I loved that line because it meant I was able to actually get some of the characters I wanted. But of course they didn't transform. Their partners or their vehicles transformed but they didn't. So because of that line I managed to get Jazz, Wheeljack, Bumblebee (long story on that one, back before the Action Masters line came out I THOUGHT I was getting a red Bumblebee at the toy store complete with story tape. I couldn't understand why Bee was red but it was Bee. However, getting home I realized not only was Bee red, he didn't look quite right for Bumblebee and the story on the tape centered around Cliffjumper and not Bee. Yup, I realized I'd actually bought Cliffjumper, who I eventually lost in a move. Course as an adult I got the keychain version of both Bee and Cliffjumper as well as Brawn, but my first Bumblebee was Action Masters Bumblebee), Blaster, and the Action Masters original Jackpot for the Autobots while for the Decepticons I got the aforementioned Starscream, Soundwave, Shockwave, and Devastator. My only real parts former as far as I'm concered were Prime, Pretenders Doubleheader, and Classics Pretender Grimlock. Besides a number of Micromasters I had Swoop, Astrotrain,, Targetmaster Pointblank with Peacemaker, and Tentakil. Of these the only ones you could call parts formers were Pointblank and Tentakil, but unlike the three I listed I never really think of them as such. Pointblank's shield became a spoiler in car mode, loose the shield and it didn't affect Pointblank all that much. And Tentakil had a stand and connector that allowed you to make a weapons emplacement out of him using his rifle and "pistols". Loose those and you just couldn't make the emplacement. Prime you had to plug his fists into his headlights, loose the fists and he didn't look right in robot mode (I lost them in the same move I lost Cliffjumper). The inner robot for Doubleheader transformered into a twin cockpit jet using a wing backpack to give the jet it's wings and rudder, loose the backpack and while the robot mode would look the same the jet mode looked a little like your "Dartscream" with two cockpits instead of one. And Classics Pretender Grimlock's inner robot had the rifle/cannon as his tail which plugged into the back of his robot head in dino mode. With the tail on he still had visible head syndrome at his dino butt, but he still looked right for a T-rex. But loose the tail and he looks so wrong with his robot head just hanging out his butt.

I had the G2 Starscream. Bought it new so I had all the pieces. He was a little different than G1 Starscream as all G2 figures were when compared to their G1 counterparts. The blue on the G1 Starscream was now grey but the red was still red, just a lighter red. Almost orange but I thought it looked red enough to call it red. Stickers were different but they looked good. His arm cannons were the biggest difference. They looked nothing like the G1 figure’s arm cannons. Oh, and he had that thing that went on his back when in jet mode. It made jet noises when you press a button. I also had the G2 Ramjet. He looked nothing like the original G1 figure.

While I do complain about part forming today. When dealing with the original G1’s I accept it. I only had Thundercracker that I ordered from the S.T.A.R.S. mail away. The robot mode guns are now lost and so is one of the jet mode smart bombs.
