Actually, it came out years earlier in Japan, under the name of Cassete Man, under a different brand. It was officially released in the US in 1984, under Hasbro and Tomy's branding, under the name of Soundwave.

THIS!!! This is the one I have! It's not as mint looking as this one because it was actually played with lol XD My uncle had it sitting in a box from when he was a kid and he decided to give it to me after I talked about how much I love Transformers and the toys. He's missing a piece of his back that holds the battery and his arm cannon. He doesn't have any cassettes either, but I'm so grateful so have him anyway :) I feel so lucky!
