I run a 50" zt1 as my only mower for a commercial condo management operation. Mow about 22 acres a week with it. Oil change and blade sharpening 2-3x a season and haven't had any issues yet. So far it's been a great machine.

I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. kzbin.infoUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

You should back off the throttle before engaging the pto, then throttle back up. Throttle down when disengaging the pto also. This reduces the load on the deck and engine. I don’t care what the rep says.

I can fully understand that concept, and thought of it and tried it myself. But for this machine, the deck actually seems to more smoothly at full throttle when engaging the PTO. A Rep is a guy who relays factory information of the product they built. I think it is almost always a mistake to think they don't know what they are doing.

I purchased the ZT1-50 with the Kawasaki engine at the beginning of the 2019 season. I mow 4-4.5 acres at my home every week During the spring, summer, and fall. When I put the mower away for the winter it had just over 57 hours on it. I have had zero issues with the mower. It cuts great with very few stragglers as long as you keep the blades sharp. I have no vibration issues with mine but I also throttle down when engaging and disengaging the Deck. It’s a great mower and I’d definitely buy it again but with a bigger deck this time lol.

I bought a zt1 50 at the beginning of the year and originally was only mowing 4 yards with it. Now I mow 10 yards and a small business property. The mower does great for me. I’ve only put about 20 hours on it so far and the only bad thing I have noticed with the mower is the blades. They seem cheap and dull pretty quick which seems to leave some grass still standing but after sharpening them it made a big difference in the cut quality. Personally I don’t think it’s the best for how much I use it but it does work and the mower runs great especially for the price. Only thing I would have done differently was buy the zt2 50 if I knew I would be mowing as much as I am now. But all in all I am very pleased with the mower.

Our 54" does our 4+ acres of lawn and pasture in under 2 hours. What a fun 2 hours it is now. Our lawn mowing went from 5 hrs of drudgery to 2 hrs of fun. The 54" has a long belt run at front right that could really use a dampener but that is the only vibration I can find and it is minor but I plan on a mod when time allows. Best $3k we have ever spent and TSC has a 4% deal on full amount. $100 discount at every holiday etc as well. Doing pasture I run full out with our 24hp Kohler. This thing is fast. Everyone guesses I paid over 4k which I find interesting as well. Very fuel efficient as well. Less than half a tank for our entire homestead.

I am running through fuel kind of quickly in mine. I'm not sure if it's because I run a little slower on the yards and cost in the field, or the motor is too much for the mower. I am glad I have it, but I'm also excited to get to demo other models real soon. I do mow my properties too fast now that I have this mower, now I need another yard or two to call it work again, lol.

@@g4outdoors lol, our grass has never grown so slow. I have opened up more areas with our old Dr. Brush mower to clear them of rocks and branches for the ZT. Mowing was never supposed to be this much fun 👍😎👌 Kep in mind the motor runs at full speed for a great cut so if you go too slow you are wasting gas. I go full out whenever conditions allow and it always looks great.

Have had my zt1 50 for about 18 months. 120 hours currently mow about 3 to 4 acres a week. Deck rumbles like it’s got a mild cam in it, love it. I do my own maintenance and repairs haven’t had 1 issue with this mower, it’s been flawless. Don’t underestimate the rigidity of that fabricated deck. (IMO is why it may transfer vibration thru the mower itself) vs stamped decks absorbing it. The fact is it’s Rigid!!!! Go buy a JD. CC should just refund your money.

I purchased a Cub Cadet ZT1 on 4/30/2019. The right side hydraulic drive broke with 3 hours of use on the meter. The two local authorized repair centers were so busy repairing Cub Cadets, they refused to take mine. I had to drive 1.5 hours (one way) from home to a shop that would take it. It has been over 5 weeks! and it hasnt been touched yet. I called this morning and they said they were going to get on it. The delay had been due to Cub Cadet's warranty authorization department. They said Cub Cadet normally sends out a replacement drive unit and just has it swapped out. In my case, they dont have an available replacement so they are telling the shop to tear the drive down and let the factory know what they see. DO NOT BUY A CUB CADET. What good is a mower if it is at the repair shop all the time. What good is a warranty if it takes months to get your machine back from a repair. Cub Cadet emailed me asking me to do a review of my new mower on their website. I did. They didnt like the negative review so they said it would not be published on their site. They wouldnt want the public to know the truth. They havent done a thing for me thus far. I asked them to expedite the repair. They said NO. Once they have made the sale, you are not even an after-thought. I actually own a Cub Cadet riding mower and the new ZT1 and I can assure you that I will NEVER buy another Cub Cadet. I will remain quite outspoken on the internet regarding this too so that other buyers wont be in the position that I am in now.

Was feeling like maybe I made a bad mistake but then I saw the comments on this video and the other bad review video I watched and the comments in both videos all say how great the mower is. I’m not worried any more and it either user error on the two videos? Anyway I can’t wait to get it tomorrow 🤗

I bought a Cub cadet rzt 50 back in 2008 . I have about 2.5 arces to cut. It's still runs good but the deck is the weak spot on it. I have had to weld the deck 3 different times so far ( the mount to lift the deck broke , and both wheel mounts broke.). Just for the record I have beat the shit out of this mower since I owned it and it's still running and cutting my weeds.

@@greenmarine5 and yet as a life long machinery repair and redesign guy I love how this machine is made and I have found NOTHING about it that says junk. The Kohler is great, the spindles are heavy duty, the frame is incredibly strong, the blades are twice as heavy as the Husqvarna, access for maintenance and cleaning is very well thought out without all the plastic covers and moldings in the way and it mows perfectly as well as very fast. Unlike so many I have looked at even oil changes are a breeze. Do you have facts to back up your little tirade or are you just mouthing off? Not everyone wants or needs a $7000 mower. 1 year down on my ZT1-50, (only 20 hours on it), and it still does what it is suppose to do and cuts fine if the grass is not real thick and shaggy. The deck may wobble a bit more than most when you hit the pto, but that maybe because the deck is hung on 3 points instead of the normal 4 points. After engagement, I don't experience any excess deck vibration or noise. It just sings along. I think you posed some vid of the pulley's on pto engagement and running a bit, but that does not really mean anything to the viewers. I have never seen a vid by those who say it vibrates a lot that can actually show me that it is vibrating excessively. Even yours looked fine to me as you were cutting the grass. But if you wanted me to hear noise from the deck, well, you were playing music. How can we take you seriously? My is fine. Glad I bought it.

Here’s my personal experience with Cub Cadet. I paid over 10 grand cash for one of their premium products. I mow about six acres on my land and it never finished mowing one time without breaking down. The dealer was at a loss after picking it up three times to find the issues. I requested my money back. The dealership got zero support from Cub. Only when I got the Attorney General of my state involved in the matter did I get my money back. My local dealer dropped their whole line and has never sold them since. Personally, you couldn’t give me one for personal use. Any manufacturer can build a turd from time to time but them not standing by their products is unacceptable.

Tommy Johnson. It comes down to service life, how long do you want it to last? If you drive your car 500 miles a day how long will it last vs driving 5 miles a day. These mowers are designed with about a 300 hr service life, which is equivalent to a car having say 150,000 miles on it. Can a car go longer with good maintenance? Sure but it’s going to cost you. For example a full on commercial machine is designed to see 3000 hours.

Been told my many small engine mechanics that most zero turns should be ran at their full speed because that is how the engine is coooled. The higher the Speed, the more air is pulled across the engine to keep it cool. Obviously, the slower the rpms, the less air gets pulled over the engine causing the engine to run hotter. I have noticed with my 23.5 Kohler on my zero turn that it does run hotter at 3/4 throttle than full throttle.

Its not the deck that makes it a residential mower it's the pumps the z-t1 is not serviceable the zt2 is after a thousand hours it's done that's about 10-15 possibly even 20 years for most residential lawn mower applications but it would never hold up running it 5 to 6 hours a day 5 days a week for a commercial business you would burn it up in a summer or two and the pumps cost almost as much as the motor........... The truth it's just a residential mower but it's a nice residential lawn mower

"The ZT1 is only designed for ONE acre" I have a pair of scissors that's only designed to cut a single 8x11 page. Totally out of luck if you have a legal or tabloid size piece of paper, or more than one sheet of letter size paper. I have a knife that only cuts watermelon. Won't even put a dent in a cantelope, an orange, an apple, ... Really bizarre how manufacturers can make products restricted to such odd limitations.

TasteMyStinkhole it comes down to the service life. That machine has a designed service life of about 300 hours. A 1 acre or less lawn will take 10 or more years to hit 300 hours. 3 acres of lawn, that machine will hit 300 hours in about 5 years. It’s equal to owning a car with 150,000 on it. Will most cars make it to that and past with good maintenance? Yes but it will cost you money to do so.

Went to pick up a ZTX4 60 earlier today. Called the dealer to confirm they had it, I have done my research and even with the negative reviews I figured all makers have negative reviews plus I like the look of this unit. When I arrived at the dealership, I noticed it was scratched and dented plus the blades were rusty and the bolts on the control board were rusty. This is a brand new unit, I asked the salesman if this was used he responded that it is brand new and they just unpacked it. I told him I am uncomfortable paying for a brand new unit in this condition, he responded that many times they unbox them and they have damage plus he told me what's the big deal, the first time you take it out you are going to scratch it. I once again informed him that when I pay for a NEW unit, I expect a new Unit, not some damaged, rusted unit. He offered to take $100 off the unit, I said thanks but NO THANKS, I suppose I hurt his feelings and so we left. Went up the street to a John Deere dealership and picked up a commercial unit that is more expensive and I thank God this happened because I believe I have made the right choice. The lack of professionalism and the fact that these units come from the factory damaged leads me to believe that I was blessed to walk away from cub cadet!

I have the same machine. I am very unhappy with it. WHEN it works, it works great. First one i got was defective. Returned it 2 days later and got another one. That one worked fine first summer. Next summer first day, the blades would not engage. Just nothing on the PTO. 4 weeks at repair center, they gave it back saying "We could not find a problem, but one day it just started working". Wow! Later that summer it happened again. Replaced the relay switch and PTO switch myself and solved it. Cut out a few more times on its own, once was a fuse, other times worked after shutting down then restarting. This Spring, 1st mow same thing, cut off, restarted 3 times then blades worked again. This morning, 2nd mow, same thing and noticed a leak that looks like the hydraulic fluid as its not oil. Wish I could sell it and get something else. Quality is just not there. As I said, WHEN it works, its great. Had had regular oil changes and maint but its just not reliable. Thanks for the video!

Huge difference betweena commercial mower and the mower you have so when I'm mowing at 11 miles an hour I promise you my neck and my back are not getting beat up and it has nothing to do with the speed it's the revolutions of the blade how fast can your blade spin that's what cuts bahia better

Not a fan of it personally. It is a zero turn, only at full lock on the steering wheel. Other than that you will divot up the lawn by turning sharp.

Kudo Shinichi If I had that much property, I would personally go commercial. I really don’t want to say one over the other because I’ve used them all and find they all do great work, it’s just personal preference and dealer support.

Engaging your blades at full RPM is the WORST thing you can do half throttle at most, it's hard in spindles, clutch, belts and pulleys to engage at full RPM . That Rep is an idiot

@@g4outdoors yes my buddy just bought one, he likes it so far I'm sorry you had that issue. That line about RPM was in your video as well. I've been in the commercial mowing world since 2006 and have always lived by that rule and its served me well.

Phillip Kuhn alot of mowers you actually are supposed too engage at max rpm. It actually has no impact on spindles and belts. The clutch compensates for it. I own 2 gravely ztr’s. One you engage at max rpm, the other at minimum. Usually your non commercial requires max rpm because of lack of torque, and clutches with less clamping force

I bought my Cub Cadet TANK LZ 54 COMMERCIAL ZERO TURN AND IT WAS DELIVERED APRIL 21, 2016. It's got 381.4 run time hours on the hour meter. The tachometer function of that meter failed some time during the first mowing with it on April 21, 2016. My only regret is I didn't let the dealer bring me a Tank with a 60 inch deck, my 27 hp Kawi has plenty of power to mow six more inches. I bought a spare for EVERY belt the first month I used it, and haven't had a single belt fail. I do have a sealed greaseless idler pulley that has no way to grease or oil it that makes a squeaking sound, I can just barely hear it when I idle the engine down. I'm going to put some oil on a couple the the idler pulleys and see if the noise goes away. The Kawasaki engine is running better after 8 years and almost 400 hours than it did when new. It starts quicker, needs less choking, and I think uses a bit less gas. I mowed with a Cub Cadet 982 Super Garden tractor that had ALL the options, front and rear pto, frt hyd outlets and hydraulic lift for the 50 inch belly mower. It was a great tractor, but the ONAN engine was a piece of dog dung. I had the feeling a large fireworks display was going to go off under the hood every time I used it. I still have the 1968 Cub Cadet #72 garden tractor I bought about 1973 or '74. I've rebuilt two increasingly larger Kohler engines for it, have a "Killer Kohler" K-341 14 hp, It has most but not all of Dave Kirk's hot-up's on his Killer Kohler write-up on IH Cub Cadet dot Com. And I still have the 1965 Cub Cadet model 70 Dad traded an Original Cub Cadet with the V-belt from the engine to the clutch & driveshaft. Dad lost track of it, last time Him & I saw it it had been repainted red & white by Dad's preferred IH dealer. It wasn't until about sometime in the 1990's he was talking to an old High school buddy at a coffee shop and turns out he'd bought the original about 1965 and it has mowed every week since. My TANK is a great mower. When I start the Kawasaki FX850V 27 hp engine I do not have the feeling it's going to scatter internal engine parts all over the garage like I do with the ONAN in the 982. I thought Duetz maybe made a small 2 or 3 cylinder diesel I could install in it, I've read where guys have installed small diesel engines out of Thermoking Refer units, I'll have to check that out. One thing I will NOT, NEVER EVER DO IS, GET A JOHN Deere. I worked part-time sorting defective parts at Deere Horicon. Believe me, there's NOTHING SPECIAL about their products, except the high cost. Dad farmed, used ALL IH FARMALL tractors, there were a couple green Deere inplements around the place, a 4 row Deere corn planter and a Deere manure spreader He bought a 1940 Deere model B tractor about 1968 to narrow up and pull the spreader thru our hog finishing building, we had a '39 FARMALL H that was twice the tractor the B was but it was traded for a 1954 Farmall Super H, which is about twice the tractor the '39 H was. I spent a LOT of time on the neighbor's Deere tractors, Dad bought me a Deere R diesel for my 10th birthday just before Christmas 1964. It was gone before Easter. It was a gutless wonder, a good FARMALL M could out-work it. In 1968 Dad had the last bid on a 1963 4010 diesel just a week or so before Christmas. We still had a diesel fuel barrel with some fuel in from the R. The 4010 didn't start real well. The starting assist was a FARMALL M and a stout chain. We did make the mistake of starting the 4010 and hooking it to the feed grinder to grind feed for the cattle. Normally the 1951 FARMALL M with the loader ALWAYS did that. Dad handed me the scoop shovel to feed the grinder, the cooling fan blew enough air back to where I was shoveling corn, the diesel exhaust went straight up to the ceiling of the crib's driveway and back down then blown back by me. In about 10 minutes I was about ready to pass out. We NEVER hooked the 4010 to the grinder again. We did use the '54 Super H as a pinch Hitter for a while one summer. Summer of '72 I'm working in town, forget with who, and one day I come home and our Brillion 6 ft rotary mower is parked up against the barn, the blades and the twisted off shaft that held the blades was on top of the mower. I'd mowed HUNDREDS of acres with that mower with my Super H and only ever broke a couple cheap 5/16" diameter bolts used as shear pins. Next day I get home, the Brillion is backed up against the barn again, but the 4010 was gone. The pto shaft on the Brillion only had two u-joints, it set up a terrible oscillation backwards and forward when you turned, I'd had that happen when I used the Super H on the Brillion. But the 4010 in ALL it's great Deere design glory had a bolt-on pto stub shaft, the oscillations overcame the RED Lock-Tite, the split lockwashers, the star type lock washers and the 4 cap screws loosened and flew away one by one until the stub shaft fell off and the pto shifted from 540 to 1000 rpm. I never heard what that repair cost but my guess is a couple Thousand Dollars. Takes Two splits to get to the gears and shafts that were damaged plus cost of the replacement parts. I guess that is as good a reason why NO ONE ELSE AROUND US HAD A 3010 OR 4010. DAD'S BROTHER ABOUT 15 MILES AWAY HAD A 3010 DIESEL. The R diesel Dad had and sold to the township road commissioner also had pto durability issues. The township tore the pto drivetrain out of that R either 3 or 4 times. SOMEONE on the internet told me a month or two ago the r diesel pto could only transmit 15 hp. But the R made over 40 hp. I engaged the PTO every time I got on the R because I was going to use the hydraulics to raise & lower an implement, a plow or disk. The engineer that made that tremendously smart decision should be kicked right in the seat of his pants.
