Swapped out the ATF for a thicker fluid to reduce the sound of gear rollover.

I've used Amsoil 75-90 MTG for 70K now. It's the slickest I've found. Simply elevate the passenger side tire and the 7th qt goes in. No need to pull the shifter.

Check out the “TDS g56 side cover” on Ebay. It has a fill plug that lets you to add 8 quarts so no need to pull the shifter

Wait really?! I need this! I hate putting my shifter off. I have the cv boot mod as you probably saw in the video but once I get the factory seal I hope to never pull the shifter off again if I have that plate you’re talking about.

Buddy im no expert, but putting GL-5 oil in there I think is super bad on the brass synchros. GL-5 is designed for higher pressure situations and can be corrosive on softer metals. You need to use GL-4! Thats what my Amsoil guy said at least.

After 2 years how is the G56 doing with the heavy oil ?

has it acted up during the winter? as in heavier weight = harder shift? where i live it gets to around 0 in the winter and a heavier weight might suck for me. also Amsoil calls for ATF.

Oh yeah most definitely! It was pretty cold out around the time I made this video. No matter if you use this thick stuff I put in, or the mobile delvac 50w, they do not like to shift right away. If I time it right with the rpms I can get it to shift before it’s warmed up, it just doesn’t like down shifting when it’s cold. But once it’s warmed up a bit it shifts great. Stuffs probably thicker than honey when it’s 10 degrees out lol

I have the Amsoil 75w90 syncro oil and it shifts fine at -44C. I live in northern BC Chinandia.

I did the TDS plate and filled with Valvoline synchromesh and it was nice shifted good but after a month it’s back to sounding the same as old atf and shifts hard when cold think I’ll go back to atf4

I have the Amsoil 75w90 syncromesh oil in my g56 416hp and 950ftlbs. Tows a tow hauler with 28000 GCVW. It's been in there for the last 103000kms. No issues.
