I have a dedicated GPS inside the car (with a battery), a bicycle GPS, and my phone with downloaded maps. I also have a laptop with builti-n GPS. The GPS is a Tread XL with an external GPS antenna and Iridium antenna (tracking/text coms) I have two powerbanks - a luggable and a portable, and more solar than I need, whether I'm in camp or moving. I also have a PLB, an inreach mini and a sat phone (iridium 9575), I'm covered for options, although I put all my sat communications in one basket (apart from the PLB): Iridium. I also carry a uhf radio for when in Australia, and a VHF radio for when I'm Africa. The electronics won't let me down. Some may break, but nothing will render me lost of without communications, short of an EMP bomb. Paper maps are only useful for me if they're super large (physically), and a general map thing, as it provides great overview this way, when unfolded. I don't carry any paper maps, not even when bicycle touring, as I don't want the faff, the weight, the bulk, or having to take great care that they don't get wet. All that, and yet: A lot of places and countries do not even provide paper maps or paper charts anymore. It is not 1995 anymore.

Best cheapish mod is a travel buddy oven and precook all your meals and freeze them in little foil trays. Set one side of the fridge to freeze and whack em in the oven for an hour and a half while you’re driving and pull the meals out when you get to camp. No cooking, no mess. Love the show blokes!

Best mod for me on any travel is a Go bag with the most essentials. Sat Phone, Space blanket, essential medication, tea candles etc. This is always in the back of my truck if I leave on any trip. Even driving with the van to Sydney this is packed last to be on top and 1st thing out with me. Like usual great trip guys.

Great vid, one of the best remote mods for me would be an 8 litre weed sprayer, handy for a bit if a shower, rinsing off windows and even helping to put out under vehicle fires caused by spinifex or controlling camp fires, also easy to know how much water your using for showers etc.

How about the "Extreme Snack Dispenser"? It's a modification designed to keep your hunger at bay during those long, off-road touring adventures. The Extreme Snack Dispenser is a cleverly integrated system that utilizes the ruggedness of your 4WD vehicle to dispense delicious snacks to you and your fellow travellers. Here's how it works: The modification starts with a custom-built storage unit, affectionately called the "Snack Vault." This secure, watertight compartment is mounted to your 4WD vehicle, preferably on the roof rack or in the cargo area. Inside the Snack Vault, a variety of your favourite snacks are neatly organized in labelled compartments. Think of it as a treasure trove of tasty treats, ranging from chips and candies to energy bars and jerky. To access the snacks, you simply activate the remote control, which triggers a sophisticated mechanism. The Snack Vault's lid smoothly opens, and a conveyor belt system is set into motion. As the conveyor belt moves, it passes through an assortment of amusing obstacles, like a miniature scale mountain range, a roaring toy tiger, or a dancing robot. These obstacles are designed to entertain and bring a smile to your face as you wait for your snack. Once your desired snack reaches the end of the conveyor belt, it slides down a custom-designed chute directly into your waiting hands. Voila! You have your well-deserved treat without even needing to stop or leave the comfort of your 4WD. The Extreme Snack Dispenser even comes with a built-in speaker system that plays catchy tunes or perhaps Shauno's laugh every time a snack is dispensed, adding an extra element of fun to the whole experience. Not only does the Extreme Snack Dispenser keep you and your travel companions entertained, but it also ensures that you're never too far away from a delicious snack while exploring the great outdoors. Remember, laughter and snacks are the perfect fuel for any memorable off-road adventure!

Save water by using baby wipes to wash, you can achieve a top to toe clean with about 7 wipes which could be trimmed down to 4 at a stretch. One for your head/neck, one for the exhaust region (this assumes you’ve polished the ring gear after the morning movement otherwise more may be required here), one for the waste water parts, then split your upper and lower halves into two areas followed by a good dose of shower in a can and you’re fresh as sitting round the fire downing a few frothies!

Baby wipes leaves a lot of plastic. Use a smal hand towel and a bowl of water. After wiping yourself down, strain it through a coffee filter and soak it again.

My essential long range touting setup would probably be my roof top tent. I was skeptical about the usefulness of one especially due to sticking to a budget after I bought my first car. But the ease of use that they allow you make up for the lack of roof space and the other small downsides. So I would say a roof topper is an essential for remote touring in my book. Cheers guys another great episode. Enjoy the Simpson 👍

Great when the 3 of you do beers in the shed, love it. What I’d take is a second set of keys. Went camping on the hay plains, had a great time but dropped the keys through the night or arvo. No way of kicking my Ute over, no phone service, no uhf had a mate leg it to get help and while gone I found the keys in my swag. He came back with no help about 4 hours later and I was gone, looking for him in hay. We don’t talk much anymore.😂

Best Mod - toilet setup. In the northeast United States it can be tough to dig a whole or bury your business because of the rocky terrain. You could tie a rope around a tree and then around your waste to help pop a squat. But having a toilet setup is just about as luxury as it gets. I often invite friends for an outdoor adventure and they decline because they cant get passed the idea of having a dump in the woods. I hope this gets me a shot at the Max Trax giveaway. Thank you fellas for the laughs, lessons and joy. I love this channel. Way back when Shauno cracked a rotten egg in your minced meat must have been the hardest ive ever laughed 😂😂

Another great beers in the shed or beers in the Simpson Dessert guys. Best remote mod would probably be a 4x4 wood plank on the roof rack, Or a few blocks in the back cut to about 10cm lengths, As you can make a makeshift step-up ramp to work on your cars, The last thing you wanna be doing is using all your physical power when stranded out in bush or in a tight situation, Any energy preserved helps. Aslong as you have 2 working arms and 1 leg, You can get your car at a point where an old jock can still get under it without needing a crane or 3 blocks to lift you up, Cause your backs rooted from all the camping you've done (if you make your own pvc tubing setup to store water in you can jockey the planks on top the pvc) Takes up barely any space, Saves alot of room for fuel / other essentials No hi-lift jack needed
