With the Run In Service completed it was time to see just how much power our G80 M3 makes! Have BMW rated the twin turbo S58 engine correctly? There's only one way to find out...

I love how this entire industry has managed to convince everyone that's its the manufactures that are misleading us about the power of the cars and not their equipment that can't keep. Everyone knows rolling roads are inaccurate yet just chooses to ignore it. I like the caveats he provided at the end, this guy has integrity.

@@TrueFilter ECU out. There is nothin that cant be worked around, may take time but no way bmw are going to prevent their cars being tuned, that would be a massive deal breaker for many potential buyers.

@Ben Gutteridge Yes but the exhaust system design is a little bit different. X3/4M is like the neglect kid of My Power family. I planned to get an aftermarket exhaust after 5000 miles or something.

That grill actually works on the M3/4. Perhaps they should have gone with conventional grill for cooking 4s, just like the 3.

So glad you went for an M3 in that colour. I’ve only seen an M4 out in the US and it just doesn’t work. Can’t wait to see where you go with this. After watching Frederick Asbo’s/ Papadakis build it looks like this will be a weapon when you get on it. Ps still fighting the urge to S65 swap my E91 with an evolve plenum and intake!

Awesome. But I'd be surprised if it's as fast as a stage 2 F80. Despite the power being similar it's obviously a lot heavier. Very impressive none the less and looking forward to seeing dragy results.

100-200 testing will show us how fast it really is. Think you’re right it will be closer to a Stage 1 F80 than a Stage 2 because of weight.

I wasn’t into the RWD car, at first. Because if you want to tune it for big hp, you’d want it in AWD. But, the RWD car may be just as awesome. Either way, the car just looks sick. I didn’t think it could get any better. Yeah, the grill is a little questionable, but that rear 3/4 shot, is money. 🙌🙌🙌

I Got one , does a consistent 8,0 sec from 100 to 200. As my previous f80 stage 2 ran 7,5 sec and it dyno 530 hp , so i think 515/20 crank its about right for the new m3 s58 as long its almost 200 kg heavier .

Great video. It’s interesting to compare the torque curves between the F80 and G80. The G80 comes in a little later and the transition between the torque building and hitting peak torque is very broad when the F80 transition is very quick. This makes sense when you say that the G80 is a lot less snappy and easier to put the power down

The xdrive is disengaged via software....to maximize launches, could a custom tune/setting enable xdrive in 1st/2nd gear, disable it starting 3rd gear?

I like the grill in conjunction with the bonnet bulges. To my eye it works. It doesn’t work as well on the 4’er though. What is eye watering is the weight… almost as much as the M5 😳

No doubt. I’ve seen it show an Alfa Quadrifoglio a clean pair of heels around a track, but it’s crazy for a M3 to weigh 1.8 tons and that’s not even the m xdrive version…

Great video, out of interest how comes you were running it in such a low gear thought it had to be a higher gear to be 1-1 or something like that ? Expected 125 ish mph

We did not have any input in to how the dyno was operated to keep it independent. Our own dyno cell is being built right now and we will dyno it again and try 5th gear.

Just wanted to ask... I'm very much interested in owning my own tuning shop, so I wanted to know because I ideally have thought of maybe partnering with an established company like you guys at evolve and at the same time I thought maybe I should just start my own thing without partnerships but I have little idea of where I would need to go to be able to learn to tune like a pro in south africa and also hiring people. Which is obviously the last thing I should be worried about but I would honestly love any advise on where to start and any referrals to companies or institutions that can help with this

I’d assume a stock comp g80 will be a good race for a stage 2 93 f80 since the f80 is 300lbs lighter.

I would still make the dynorun last at least 10-14 sek in a higher gear. Sure it will give less powertrainloss and a stable curve.

On a Dynojet you cannot extend the run as such as far as I know.

Linked mode refers to the dyno itself. The front and rear rollers are physically linked so they spin at the same speed.

Same 60-80 time as f82. Same 0-60 times as well. 460ish whp vs 410ish whp of the f82. 3500~lbs vs 3800~ lbs. it all checks out. This thing is as fast as a stock m4.

Anything over 80 here is reckless driving which holds same weight as DUI. Which is bullshit. I definitely do not need that on my record.

Easy answer: more than you can handle. Wait it’s awd ? It’s close to 4000 lbs? I think that’s an Audi bruv. In all seriousness it’s a cool car (the whp is the crank power of f80) but manual only for me. That awd system is good on m5 but makes this a boat.

510 rated and it's making 470 whp. Yea, BMW is seriously underrating these cars. That's like an 8% drive train loss thru an automatic. Put in perspective, the Camaro SS 455 bhp with an auto and manual is a 20 whp difference, manual putting down more power.

Is it true the new g80 and g82 models cannot be custom tuned? I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about that. Can you please elaborate?

It is true, all BMW’s (and other brands that use the same ECU) made after June 2020 (or had software updates) cannot be tuned as the ECU is locked. People are using piggyback devices such as JB4 so far.

All M5’s made up until June 2020 yes, after that they are ECU locked.

Currently nothing built past June 2020 or had a software update after that is tuneable.

I'm shocked by how much less power the S58 puts out below 3.5K, that's where most of your real-world driving happens, makes me fear the new car will feel sluggish when driving around town.

As soon as you put any real amount of throttle input the car would change down gear to be above that, so I think it’s a non issue.

Funny thing is I just watched non competition m3 model on Dyno and it made 509 horsepower on KZbin

Still not liking the front or the gauges, but the rest of the car is sharp. Very fast too.

520 to 540 depending on what drive train loss you want to use

Please forgive me for asking a stupid question. But what does 469 hp at the wheels translate to in horsepower at the crank? And I still don’t understand why you guys in England keep saying it’s 510 hp when BMW clearly says it’s 503 hp. I realize I just don’t understand so can you explain both these questions to me please. Thank you so much. Awesome video. I can’t wait to see more on this car.

510 refers to PS, while 503 is BHP

Any particular reason for 3rd gear pulls instead of 4th?

They were done in 4th, you can see the gear indicator in the bottom right corner of the overlay.

We had no input on the dyno to keep it independent. When our own is operational we can experiment with gears etc.
