Brilliant, I now understand how to assemble the top end on my G2, thank you

That's great with the tray type bottom plates, try it with the cross drilled type. They have to be assembled before being placed on the head and I have found that type of tool useless for disassembly. The half moon compressor was money well spent.

@@TheRideNut Hello Dick. I got my cylinder head delivered and it's in good condition with new valve guides. Adjacent to the exhaust guide is a small recess with a hole in the bottom high I believe is to feed oi to the guide. However, when I put oil I ( thin ) it doesn't drain away so I think the hole in the guide is out of line? What do you think?

@@colvinator1611 Hi Colin, not uncommon, and not a concern. Modern oils will provide adequate lubrication from simple splash. Originally AMC had drilled a hole thru the guide to allow oil to puddle in the recess of the head and trickle down and inside the guide. I'd not worry and simply move ahead. My recommended oil is Valvoline VR1 which has lots of zinc. If you are in the USA every NAPA store sells VR1 and I run 50 wt year round in Seattle. Best wishes on your bike.

Gosh...... I forgot all about those devilish springs. Old gentleman that operated the AJS/"Matchbox" shop did them by hand too! He never let me in on easing over the edges like that. I can just see the twinkle in his eye as I type this 😊
