Rear brake pad DIY for 2021+ M3 and M4. G8x platforms.
If you have access to BMW scan tool, the motor can be disengaged in service mode, but if you do not, this will need to be done
Torque spec for bolts is 35 nm
I have since torqued mine to spec.

Extra note from swapping my pads out today - make sure you place the correct pad on the INSIDE of the rotor. The correct pad will have extra indent shapes for pad wear sensor, it will be obvious once you look for it. I did not pay attention and had rearrange mine, otherwise the senor will not clip into the pad. Great videos for both rear and front, thanks FloridaMan!

They’ve put these shit rear Calliper’s on the G platform now because they use an electric hand brake, you’re supposed to go into the system & put it in service mode & let the piston wind itself back & not wind it back as your doing! Bring back the proper callipers like we have on the F platform & scrap the E brake shite!

Yes, wish they would have kept the hand brake for sure

Also, The 17mm open end wrench required needs to be quite slim.

Thanks for sharing, very nice car! It was good to see that you removed the floating caliper before removing the EMF actuator, makes it much easier.

Great video to watch buddy,very informative, could i please ask ,did you have to reset the notification on the display that you have replaced brake pads ? If so how did you do this ,also what type of brake pads did you use. I am also thinking doing it myself but then not to sure how to reset notification on a display 😂thanks in advance

Thank you! I did not have to reset the light because i replaced these when the car had less than 500 miles on it. The rear pads were Dynamic Friction DFC 3000

On Volkswagen’s you can put 12v onto the motor and unwind it. Wonder if this method works on BMW’s.

do you have to rewind the motor the other way before you put the motor back on to the caliper?
@FLManGarage

No, once you are done you can start the car and engage the parking brake and it will rewind the motor for you

Haven't lowered mine yet but have the same springs. Anything special needed for alignment afterwards?
@FLManGarage
@FLManGarage Жыл бұрын
I did not do an alignment, but it is recommended to do one about 1-200 miles after installing the springs. I took out the bolt on the rear that does not mess with camber, so i dont think the alignment got messed up too much. TL DR you probably should, but i did not and have no issues at the moment. (3k miles later)

Thanks for this very informative video! I wanted to ask you if the aesthetic black M3 logo clips ever felt off during the caliper removal process? I own a G80 M3 and noticed these are extremely loose. You can just pull them out with no effort at all. I heard people saying they have lost theirs during regular driving. I see yours stayed on during the whole video and wanted to ask if you did anything to keep them in place.
@FLManGarage
@FLManGarage 9 ай бұрын
mine did not! sorry must have missed this comment
@Ally.MacMillan

They should have spring clips on the back of them to keep them in place, they aren’t too easily removed and shouldn’t remove themselves just during normal driving.

Is that a 50th anniversary sticker on the steering wheel? I’m trying to figure out how to get rid of the older looking emblem
@FLManGarage
@FLManGarage Жыл бұрын
Yes it is! I got it off Amazon awhile ago and it just sticks over the oem emblem and fits perfectly. I cant find it on amazon anymore though. Im sure similar can be found on ebay. Its annoying that this is the one badge that isnt the 50th anniversary on the car

thank you very much for the confirmation! Anecdotally, I have heard that if you do have the vehicle in service mode, then you don’t necessarily have to deal with the E brake. I’m not sure if you have any thoughts on this from your experience…? Again, thank you so much for putting the effort in to put this video out there. It’s sincerely appreciated. This video seems to show this team not dealing with the emergency brake, but they have confirmed that they did have the vehicle in service mode kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpbdhnaClt2GjLM
