See, this was the kind of fight I enjoyed. Because he actually suffered lasting consequences for his forbidden technique that were immediately visible. He was down until nearly the end of the season for it, instead of it having some invisible effect like "shortening his lifespan".

Honestly here we see sakura surprisingly caring about Lee she even wanted to go down there but kakashi stopped her and told her Sasuke is her main boo. Lee didn't get his girl and lost his ability to fight. Imagine if sakura and lee actually became a thing, where sakura ended up staying at Lee's side as Lee just felt depressed as hell knowing that his days as a Shinobi are numbered, his consolation prize is Sakura's heart and then he gets to settle down with his boo, and the show would still continue without Sakura being obnoxious about Sasuke 24/7. If i was a manga artist i'd easily show how to adapt this bit to show a start of a romance between them.
