To this day this fight stands as one the most notable in Naruto. No fists thrown in a showdown of who is mightier, no Jutsus honed over dozens of generations. A fight that truly showed what being a Ninja is- Using your head and putting your enemy in a position where the final blow is guaranteed. From the start Shikamaru had one plan- Establish a false limit his opponent thought he had combined with a lazy attitude, and make them panic with a few tricks all in order to position them for the final blow to be dealt. Just as the InoShikaCho combo is intended. Temari might have otherwise been aware of the hole, but because of how many times Shikamaru made her panic and need to reposition, she forgot as the need to "survive" (Yes it's a match where death is most likely going to be stopped) got the best of her. Putting her right in where Shikamaru wanted. The best part? The man doesn't even claim the win. Not because the others might beat him, but because he knew that those watching would see that he's what they need- Not just a strong Ninja, a SMART Ninja.

wait, i just realized old shows used to use special sound effects for different powers and new ones tend to just reuse the same ones for different abilities more often. Also using that calm techno to set the mood of the fight better instead of just hammering away with the same old either ominous music for the bad guy or a heart pounding scream for the good guy.... I'm starting to see why people tended to like older shows more. Not simply that they were better, but they didn't try to standardize what it means to display content.

You can't compare the factory made anime for feeding Otaku to an anime like naruto. Those kinds of anime you are talking about existed back in the days, but they didn't make it too occidental public. Back in then we only gets what the diffusers thinks we could like. You know what kind of anime and manga where born in the early 2000's ? Yeah harem ! So don't talk of the old days like better days for the anime OK! This time sees terrific horror! Boku no pico and school days are two well known examples but you could so much more obscure shit beneath the surface of season anime in this Era. Like you can find masterpiece in our days too.
