Rewriting “Concealer” by Gabbie Hanna I wear make up because I have acne. I have acne because I wear make up. I have bruises because I bother you. I bother to cover because I see your face in every black and blue. I hate blue jays because they remind me of you. But of course I’d never tell, for fear of more black and blue hues. So when you ask, I wear make up because I have acne. Not my best work, but I did this quick edit in 5 minutes to show what can happen if Gabbie just thought a little more about her work and the potential it could have in double meanings and worthy repetitions in words and in form if she just spent a little more time thinking and editing.

Another member of depression and anxiety club here. There are times when my conditions do cause me to read into things and pick up on subtext that might not really be there etc. If there is some in these, though, then it's...very very deeply buried indeed, 'cause I ain't seeing it. It's not even just that the poems aren't that deep - the two Shakespeare sonnets in this video are fairly straightforward! With these, though, the message lacks both depth and elegance in its execution.

Embracing me warm and comforting; Pulling over me taught and suffocating. It is my most honest feature. Every crease and divet, bump and colour, Tells my story raw and real. @ohisee91735 жыл бұрын
@@erikdaniels0n I find it hard to believe that part of that quality you like is not the mocking that many others are imitating or worse. Why would you mention that in the first place and in a way that seems praiseworthy? It's hard to not infer that you're on board with the mocking from that comment alone. And she liked it. Regardless of YOUR intent, she loses empathy and good judgement points for that in my book.

Okay but like also Gabbie released 2 or 3 “limited edition” colors of her “poetry” book and encouraged her fans to pick up every color which is clearly just a cash grab and grasping at the opportunity to be on some best seller list.

@@khushigill8651 Rupi Kaur mimics a poetry style from India as a way of connecting with her roots/her ancestry. And her poetry is available online for free so people can see what it's about without buying her books - doesn't seem like a cash grab to me. I can say that while I wasn't impressed by her poems the first time I read them, they grabbed a hold of me and I have considered buying her books to analyse why - though I do have a more visceral reaction to "the sun and her flowers" than I have to "milk and honey" - knowing about the effort she put into those books makes me resent the way you mention her here. You are of course entitled to your opinion and I get that feelings are very subjective as well as how a superficial glance might give someone a (in my opinion) *wrong* impression

I have no idea why you refer to me as "Hannah" and I was talking about Rupi Kaur - I'm not talking about some Hannah or about Gabby. 😕??? /Edit: realised that you probably said Hannah because it's "Gabbie Hanna" - everything I know about her is what I heard Rachel say about her. I actually had a different interpretation of the poem- that the persona is blindly in love and egoistical! 👻💕 But yes, the sonnet is still absolutely beautiful. Came for the fun, stayed for Shakespeare sonnets. And doggo. Here is my favourite: ”When in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes I all alone beweep my outcast state, And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries, And look upon myself, and curse my fate, Wishing me like to one more rich in hope, Featured like him, like him with friends possessed, Desiring this man's art, and that man's scope, With what I most enjoy contented least; Yet in these thoughts my self almost despising, Haply I think on thee, and then my state, Like to the lark at break of day arising From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate; For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings That then I scorn to change my state with kings.” (#29)

that's such a moving poem! my fave is sonnet 147: "My love is as a fever, longing still For that which longer nurseth the disease, Feeding on that which doth preserve the ill, The uncertain sickly appetite to please. My reason, the physician to my love, Angry that his prescriptions are not kept, Hath left me, and I desperate now approve Desire is death, which physic did except. Past cure I am, now reason is past care, And frantic-mad with evermore unrest; My thoughts and my discourse as madmen's are, At random from the truth vainly express'd; For I have sworn thee fair and thought thee bright, Who art as black as hell, as dark as night."
