Born just down the road from me and one of the Villa layers I'm most proud of. He became such a legend, you could almost tell from the noise of the Villa fans when he scored, even when you were listening to the radio - there's a particular goal v Small Heath: "....... it's there!!!!!!!!!!!.....and GUESS who it is???!!!!!!!" Its a shame the end of his career didn't match the beginning. I wish he'd shown more drive when we were getting relegated. I applaud that he didn't walk out when we were down. But I regret that no one cared when we went down. Thank you for all the goals and all of the good times. Your legacy will always be the goals you scored against blues. And given that we got beat 3 seasons in a row by them I applaud your contribution and wish you nothing but the best in the future

Never truly lived up to his potential as a player too much partying I think lol! But he’s been a fantastic servant for Aston Villa, always liked him as a player his goal against Blackburn was unreal & his pace in his younger days was absolutely frightening. Manchester United fan.

I've always wondered why more fuss wasn't made of it at the time...being at the game I think the crowd were in shock we had a penalty so early on, and didn't even give a card a second thought, but it was a blatant professional foul, last man in a goal scoring position... letter of the law is red card. Perhaps it was because it was Man U, or perhaps the ref just bottled it, but either way Vidic should've walked. Seem to remember we got screwed over in the fa cup semi Vs Chelsea that season too

Lot of good memories, will always thank him for that, his record of bagging goals in important games was very impressive even though he was a bit of a pleb sometimes. Overall, even though I wasn't at the game, I'd say it was the goal at man utd which is the most special. The feeling I had at full time when I saw the scoreline was indescribable given that we never win at Old Trafford, so for that alone he has my respect
