Loved it. A few scenes showed Al "Fuzzy" St. John instead of Gabby by the way. He had a few defining, inventive traits as well, very physical too !

If you would kindly remember that in the early 1930s, Hayes was in the Bob Steele westerns: Tombstone Terror, Riders of the Desert, Texas Buddies, and Nevada Buckaroo, A personal favorite was Texas Buddies because of the on screen relationship with Hayes and Steele as a close friend versus a humorous aged cowhand. An early Hopalong Cassidy film casted Hayes as a bartender with center-parted reddish brown slicked down hair and trimmed beard- and his character received a scripted mortal wound heroically defeating the bad guys. His speech in the early Steele films was clear and sharp in all those parts. Hayes was so strong in his Steel films, he appeared strong enough to break out as a leading character in his own right. No matter- He gave us all everything we needed for our viewing pleasure.

My father took my sister and I, ages 5 and 4, to a carnival at St. Rose of Lima Church in Freehold, NJ about 1948. We saw Gabby Hayes there. I remember he smiled as my father moved us closer to him. Decades later I remember seeing him primariy on the Hopalong Cassidy reruns. RIP George and Beatrice.

I can't believe they wouldn't have settled on his salary despite being how much he was loved by the public and what a draw money wise he was. Just shows what greed will do for you, they would have made 10 times what they paid him in salary. 😮

How many times did we get to see Olive as an old woman when the narration was about a young woman. Feh.
