I’m blown away by how you played thrasher Word for Word without stumbling over so many lyrics! I memorized that song in the early 80s by reading the album lyrics. At that time I lived in the desert in Arizona and could totally relate to the asphalt highway bending! This song makes me feel like I just went to church, and you were the head of the choir Gabby! Well done sister!

And I stumble on this, and sing it along with you as if we rehearsed it together. Wow. Thank you for this. This song meant so much to me, then, and now. Thanks bunches.

I’ve been a Neil Young fan since I was in the womb (back in the day when the headphones on the belly were almost as gigantic as the baby in it, LOL!)... I think he would be so proud to see what I see and what I am experiencing, his own version🎼🧬🕺💃🎙. I see a girl with the soul of a folk singer, a woman with the passion of a punk rocker, a human with the talents of everything all combined with the soul that’s worth witnessing all the way through… So happy to know of your music now and I’m cherishing the experience.

@@GabbyHolt your performance of this song, which has been my life's theme song for many years, you have re-ignited in me something which had died, i actually saw King Neil play this song on his Live Rust tour in Philly in 1975, i went to the concert by myself and left my friends behind. your performance is so real, you so get it, the meaning of life and following your own dreams regardless of what anyone else thinks, even your bestest of friends. you are probably a loner just like me, although many people love you, you are happiest when you're all alone to contemplate the meaning of life. and everytime to discover new meaning and new truths that were there all along you feel that joy and ecstasy of life and the cosmos, aurora borealis the icy sky at night. btw, i too must try playing Thrasher with the capo on the 6th fret, you are awesome Gaby, keep on rockin' in the free world baby. Peace and Love, Ronnie Jay.

I have to write this. I love Neil Young more than anyone I know. But I never liked this song, listened 5 times. I listened to Powderfinger a thousand times but I couldn't like this. Now I do. You fleshed this out better than Neil on guitar and you sound so good. Cliff notes: " The "thrasher" refers to several themes, actually. There is the thrasher as a farm implement which harvests grain or a reaper. Thus, "thrasher" is a reference to the grim-reaper (or death). Neil is using the phrase "thrasher" as a metaphor for the decline of traditional farming (possibly presaging his interest in farm Aid?), as well as, artistic decline" Or this might refer to the breakup of Buffalo Springfield. Oh course, that's it.
@GabbyHolt2 жыл бұрын
So beautiful. Thank you so much for taking time to share this with me. I love this song so much. Over the years, I've definitely resonated with the Death aspect in many areas in life. And absolutely, my step dad growing up used to play this song and he'd tell me about thrashers and farming. Pretty rad. "What's a thrasher?" hahah I remember asking. Thanks for sharing this with me and the kind words. I appreciate it.
