Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. I had the honour to serve on a UN Peace Keeping Force in Cyprus with the Canadian Army, I came home overland through Turkey, Greece and Italy to Germany then home. On a bus from Ankara to Istanbul I was the only non-Turk on the bus. The radio; was p'laying enjoyable Turkish music. Heart of Gold came on and the driver was about to change it when a passenger near him said something to the driver and pointed to me. I still remember this as a nice trip. Such gestures were welcome

The last time I saw neil was in Hyde Park. When he finally finished an extended version of Rockin in the free world which was beyond excellent.Then he came back for the encore. A day in the life. Suddenly an unknown person came onto stage...a sudden wave of recognition swept the crowd into a frenzy. It was Paul McCartney about to perform this song live on stage for the first time. And what a performance Neil shredded every string playing the orchestral trippy bit. It ended with Neil and Paul playing on xylophone an ethereal and beautiful ending.

Anyone who's ever been in a pickin' party will recognise the look in Willy's eyes at the opening of this clip. He is watching Neil's left hand and working out which chords to use. Watch his hand and see him head to a chord and change his mind. Even shakes his head when he went the wrong way. I have slapped double bass in bands when I didn't know a single song they played, but my guitar knowledge let me hang in there, watching the singer's hand as he chorded out the rhythm part on an acoustic.

I was watching him the whole time, seemed like he was lost tbh, and towards the end of the song he's got his fingers way up by the 7th fret on the high E. Seemed like he just gave up and decided to make it look like he was doin something. Not knocking on Willie in any way, like you said it's hard to jump in and jam with another band.
