Great story! Being a KZbinr is very similar to running your own business. You should upload things people want to see, just like businessman should offer product/service that people need. And when the growth becomes real, you can consider hiring people to help you run your channel more efficiently. The most difficult part is starting and growing of course, but consistency and hard work (with a little bit of help from Fame- ster of course) will always pay off at the end.

Gabe is right about 2 things. Some of the most successful videos on my channel are just me shooting the breeze about what I’ve been up to. And I do feel like I’m finding my people. A lot of comments I get are from people who have the same interests as me. And as long as my channel is relatively small, I can respond to every comment, so it feels like community too.

However, I've decided to restart my forgotten KZbin channel because I want to share the stories in my mind with the world. very good points you make. i had zero plans to 'vlog' back in 2012. but after moving to the philippines, i needed a way to share my videos with my grown kids back home so, i put them on youtube. just goofing around town, exploring places. next thing i knew, 'people of youtube' began asking me questions about visas, budgets, customs, dating. now i've been vlogging for 12 years, over 100,000 subs. over 31 million views. here's an important distinction you made; "you have something you want to say." sadly, everybody and their brother that moves to the philippines now "has a channel". but they have nothing to say. so many just copy other content like a template and hope for views. they aren't putting themselves out there, creatively or sincerely. and so, YT-philippines travel niche is now flooded with many lame channels going nowhere. i just started my 4th channel today. different genres, different audiences. as you said, "your people" are out there, and they will find you. if a person is consistent and constantly improving.

Great video, Gabe! I agree. Starting my KZbin channel was an excellent decision. I was at rockbottom after losing my mother and my brick and mortar business, followed by entering lockdown in a home filled with business stuff here in New Zealand. On top of that I was officially OLD at 65! So, what did I have to lose? It's been a very good decision that helped me not only reinvigorate my arts practice, but gave me a lot of confidence.

I film so many videos through the year from all the events I go to through the states with the intent of making videos for KZbin but I have so many hobbies I like to record but ppl say you should niche down when it comes to a channel. It I love lots of stuff like tech, 3D printing, drones, diy projects, reviews videos, comic con, anime expo, creating stuff with blender and unreal engine for fun. I mean. I love it all. After I get done filming stuff, I start to get into the “analysis paralysis” of things on what to actually post. I really just need to just make the videos and just post them and whatever happens, happens.

Of course, when your topics are North Dakota, fountain pens, mechanical typewriters, and the occasional deep dive into a topic or obscure books...you don't get many views. I have had an automotive obsession since I was 12 and loved my career as an auto mechanic, machinist, fabricator, teacher and vehicle builder. I knew retirement for me would not be sitting in a rocking chair sipping tea but wasn't sure what I would do. Its starting to come to me and If I don't start sharing my obsession soon I think I'm gonna burst lol. I'm starting by wathing videos like yours, learning how to make videos, types of videos I want to do, cameras etc. Writing it all in a notebook makes it real. Making a video of myself and posting it feels awkward but I assume like everything else I have done in life it will get easier. Thanks for your inspiration.

Im on 60k subs right now and maybe Im not good enough to tell you one thing. Dont start a gaming channel. Believe me. Lets Plays wont bring you somewhere these days. And if you are able to find a Game you have to burnout yourself, rush your game to produce as many videos as possible as soon as possible. This is how I killed my motivation and thinking about doing a second non gaming channel. But Gabe is right. You have to enjoy the progress but it could be that you lose your way and only think about the next sponsorship, if your next videos is a hit or miss. So yeah, never think about success, think about a channel that motivates you to do this for years and improve yourself. And one thing that everyone thinks about himself: "I dont look good, so I dont have to put my face in the internet". Believe me, many people dont even care how you look, if your video is awesome or helpful. And tbh dont be afraid about your friends or family. You think they will stalk you channel? Make fun of you? Nope. I told some friends about mine and guess what? We never speak about it or any video. Everyone is filled with their own problems and seeking for their answers, they dont even have the time to judge me. But this is just my experience. Go out and create! What about always living behind a camera, looking at screens, dealing with gadgets to help hold up the camera, lighting, mics, editing footage, hearing your own voice, it just sounds like a miserable way to spend my time. I feel less present in my own life if I'm thinking, oh I need to make videos of this or that. Please help me see the other side of this. Truly want to know what I'm missing here.

You’re missing potentially never having to work for someone else ever again. This kind of thing isn’t for everyone. Maybe it isn’t for you. Or maybe your not the vlogger type but have something else to offer others where you may never even appear onscreen. Or maybe you’re just trying to be dismissive.

These are valid points/ concerns. I like to look at it through the lens of everything have pros and cons. I gladly exchange the camera, screen time, hearing my own voice, etc, for being fully in control of my own time and schedule. Everything can be hard. Choose your hard ❤

I may do one about obtaining early time freedom. When asked how I can point them to it, further freeing my time. Thank you!

I can’t thank you enough. I needed encouragement, and a genuine person telling me practical advice. This was the medicine and motivation I needed to keep going… I have 2 channels and deleted a 3rd out of frustration one day. All that work, gone. I now have a new perspective ❤❤❤❤

Brilliant as always 💚 It's cool how KZbin makes the world smaller with like-minded people. I would love to learn something new maybe not KZbin not sure how (Deaf) but it's interesting Have a Favorite Weekend 💚

We call those echo chambers. Hasn't done the world any good i can see. We don't even really socialize anymore.

This is really motivating, and I've been trying to just sling out content in hopes it will catch on. I recently broke my leg really bad and was laid off and I've been having a really hard time with it. When I look at my channel I've been starting to get really down about it. Hopefully the juice is worth the squeeze, and if I can keep consistent, things will turn out. I appreciate this video, and maybe I'll be able to have some retrospective down the road when I felt all upset about low subscribers, and no views :P

Haven't given up yet.. just crossed 42000 subscribers but I hit a bit of a plateau... I don't know Gabe, it's difficult especially when the money isn't there lol

I’m seeing so many “you should start a KZbin channel” videos these days. Is KZbin sending y’all bonuses for making these?

Everybody that subscribed already has a KZbin channel what is this high School popularity BS start a KZbin channel not everybody is going to follow everybody and plus KZbin is already slowly dying
@Turtlpwr2 ай бұрын
For many of us starting a KZbin channel about something actually makes it harder to dig into the thing, because we then have to figure out all this other stuff we aren’t passionate about, acquire all these additional skills, only to reach less people because you aren’t a good editor or cinematographers, thus keeping more people from experiencing your work because it is framed in a lesser quality work of the KZbin video.

Love this! I've been making short form content for a few months and loving it as a creative outlet for my antsy days. But I find myself always battling the voice in my head asking "do people think this is a waste of my time" since I don't have a large channel. Good reminder to do things purely for yourself and if people join you for the ride, that's gravy.

Thanks for the advice Gabe. I started my KZbin channel and interview artists and underdogs. I'm an actor/artist and trying to get better at communicating and listening.

I’ve been in and out of the youtube channel space because of lots of life changes trying to find balance with being a new mama. Appreciate this video a lot because I have given up since becoming a mom but youtube has always been what I believed to be what can give me not only flexibility but a place of belonging and sharing with others. Signed up for the class.
