@witlof549211 ай бұрын
@goostrey4210 Nice one, but no. It's a bit more convoluted than that...
@dragonfly920911 ай бұрын
You're question is rather vague, so not sure what connection you are looking for. All that comes to mind for me---is that Gabriel is a sojourner--and he has wandered in many ancient lands, upon which ancient feet have trod. Not withstanding the fact that both England and Hawaii are green and pleasant lands. Echoes of the distant past. (you've got me wondering now!)
@witlof549211 ай бұрын
@@dragonfly9209 It's not vague - it's like a cryptic crossword clue.
@goostrey421011 ай бұрын
@@witlof5492 While I'm not sure what you are after, perhaps I should explain to other readers that the quote in the question is from William Blake's poem "Jerusalem" that became an English Nationalist anthem in 1916 with music by Sir Hubert Parry. It alludes to a bizarre myth that Jesus was taken to England as a young boy, and there he planted his staff (in Glastonbury, I think) and said that this is the promised land, or some such nonsense. The song appeared in the famous movie Chariots of Fire and indeed, the title of that film came from the poem ("Bring me my bow of burning gold: Bring me my arrows of desire: Bring me my spear: O clouds unfold, Bring me my chariot of fire.") I still have no idea how it connects to Gabriel. Personally I'd be a bit insulted if someone connected me to that Blake poem, and I'm an Englishman!

Gabriel, howzit? Mahalo 'nui loa (plenny!) fo visit da kine. Opinion: Molokai'i is not popular with tourists because it is SO rustic, and the place really is meant for people who really like roughing it, who have friends and / or relatives who live there who they can visit. It IS rather desolate. There is no shopping and nightlife, on Molokai'i. There are no posh hotels. You get my drift. Yeah, that's why. This place is where tourists go when they have already seen other islands in Hawai'i and ... well, when Ni'ihau still won't let 'em in.

I have been to Molokai twice. One time I stayed where Gabriel stayed, on the western tip. Nobody goes to Molokai because it is a Haole Go Home area. The locals might not mind you being there for a day or two, but then they want you to go home. Each time I visited I went to see a high school classmate of my oldest brother. We are from the same suburban Boston hometown. She and her (now-deceased) husband had lived east of Kaunakakai since the late 1980s until a couple of years ago when her husband passed away. She had ingratiated herself with the locals through volunteer work such as sewing the hula skirts for the local Molokai hula team that participated in contests worldwide. But she cautioned that as Haoles we would never be accepted there. The vast majority of Molokai residents are locals and you are not wanted there. I fell in love with the island and its vast open spaces. I hope it stays the way it is - with almost no tourist infrastructure of any sort. But I doubt I’d be able to retire there … I don’t go where I’m not wanted. 😢
