Keep bringing unique content like this and you'll really be a multimillionaire super star KZbin traveler. Amazing video. Quoting an article so u can look it up... According to Ms. Mitropoulou, "Alexander the Great died suddenly and was initially buried in Memphis. However, Ptolemy I then had him secretly transferred to Siwa, mainly out of fear of Alexander the Great's successor, Perdiccas, who came to Egypt demanding the body of the dead king. The first time, Ptolemy managed to trick him by giving him another body, but the second time Perdiccas arrived in Egypt and demanded his body, he was killed by Ptolemy's horsemen. With Perdiccas now out of the way, Ptolemy ordered an inscription containing all the information about the tomb's occupant.

The language of Siwa is a dialect of Amazighi (the original language of the whole of North Africa before Arabic was introduced since the 7th century after Islamic conquests) it's an Afro-Asiatic language so it shares few basic characters with Arabic (Semitic languages are Afro-Asiatic as well) and there are of course Arabic words that infiltrated all Amazighi dialects as many Arabs were accutured to be Amazighs and the opposite (many Amazighs were arabized)

Apparently in the Siwi language "Azul" means "hello and "Azul felawen" means "hello to you". Also a Chinese drilling company is digging or has digged deepwater wells for the villagers of Malol, located in the Siwa Oasis, maybe that is why there are so many signs in Chinese. (Added the "apparently" because it is taken from a web site and I don't know if it is actually true.) The Siwa Oasis looks like a very interesting place to visit.

Hi Gabriel, I'm really enjoying your videos of Egypt. My guess is the alcove near the stairs was intended for a god or goddess. This is what I found in my search. Bastet, Goddess of Protection She protected the home from evil spirits and disease, especially diseases associated with women and children. As with many deities in Egyptian religion, she also played a role in the afterlife as a guide and helper to the dead although this was not one of her primary duties.

That's probably Berenice Troglodytica, an ancient town which is located on the Red Sea, near the border with Sudan. I remember reading that there was evidence that South Indian (Tamil?) travellers had reached there at some point. The ancients really did a lot more travel than some modern people may think.

Egypt is very strict about things like drones. It's legal technically but you require a government permit and getting one is very difficult to do I've been told. I've seen many a KZbinr have thier drones either seized or held at the airport until the person departs the country. Unfortunately it is an impractical thing to try to do.

The good thing is it's a well traveled road. If you did break down then you would get help, probably get a ride with the next taxi or shuttle bus to come along. Gabe - Thanks for the response; a good one. Serious question: I know you have come up as a backpacker and still see yourself as one but as you have gotten a little older (like us all) and more successful, does the more luxurious travel of 4 and 5 star hotels and even suitcases get any more attractive to you? Asked differently, if a very nice hotel were available and affordable, even the Ritz Cracker, would you stay there over the lesser hotel and/or hostel?
@GabrielTravelerVideosАй бұрын
@@stevenlapidus2902 I'm happy to bridge both worlds. I'll definitely go for the nice hotel rooms sometimes. The hotel where I stayed in Alexandria was four star. But ultimately how luxurious it is doesn't matter that much to me. It's more about the atmosphere and practicalities like a comfortable bed, clean, quiet, fast wifi and the location. And cheaper is always better.
