This was fantastic. I have a feeling this thing will be perfect for late 80s era wax trax industrial music. I mean... A dedicated distortion knob and a sequence mutate button? I think I'm all in.

Lovely beats Gabe! Imagine how much more powerful rhythm would be if it had some sort of polyphony per track.

As a sampler why not just sample your chords? If you need polyphony pair it with a Tracks.

Really great and informative videos Gabe! I have a few noob questions about the Rhythm for anyone who might be willing to answer. 1) On the Rhythm can u sample from an external synth into one track, have that continue to loop, switch to a new track while the 1st track loops, and sample onto the next track and so on? Kind of like live looping I suppose. Gabe may have answered this in a video but it may have gone over my head lol. I know the longer the sample the longer it takes to compress, but could you kind of do this seamlessly with shorter samples/ loops? 2) I'm assuming you can sync up the Rhythm with other sequencers to have multiple sequencer instruments in the same tempo, am I right about that? Sorry for the dumb questions. Great content Gabe!

Hi! I've seen Gabe didn't respond to you, so I'm gonna respond to you instead: 1) Yes, you can set a 1 or 2 bars loop by using one pattern or you can chain patterns for a longer loop if you want. 2) You actually can control external synths, but it's not like the Circuit Tracks, like it's not going to set the midi clock automatically. Hope it helps!

@@user-sx2iw2hq3l Most of the custom samples are in my $5 sample pack! A lot of them came from sounds I made in my DAW, and there's also a good amount of hardware stuff in there as well (MicroFreak, Model:Cycles, etc). I've done videos on how to make drum sounds, heavy bass sounds, and more in that past if you want to go further down that rabbit hole.

Feedback from a massive viewer of your channel: I'm way more interested in seeing you disect those beats so that I can make them on my own and learn something in the process. Listening to the final thing doesn't bring me much. Keep up the good work!

I appreciate the feedback, I do like doing the track walkthrough videos quite a bit, but it's hard to gauge which ideas the audience will find interesting. Are there any beats in particular in this video that you'd really like to see the making of?

Great example of hard beats. Is this stock or downloaded? Does it have drum patterns pre installed by default please and how many please. As the others hardly had any significant drums with any refined kicks etc. On the first two they released I wasted my money twice, as it claimed to be a groove box and really wasn't. All I wanted was straight out the box drums and rhythms, that I could then build off. I'm not interested in pc interaction, just purely the analogue sounds straight out the box.
@GabeMillerMusic
@GabeMillerMusic Жыл бұрын
Glad you dig the beats! There are sounds built in, but they're samples (not analog) that you can swap out for whatever you want. All of the beats are made completely from scratch by me, mostly with custom sounds. You can also record sounds directly into the Rhythm if you don't want to deal with a computer, but I'd still recommend loading in a bunch of your own sounds via the computer at least once to get the most out of it. If you want a similarly priced and sized groovebox that is an actual drum synth/drum machine, it might be worth looking into the Elektron Model:Cycles.

@@GabeMillerMusic hello thanks for your reply. Yes well I don't want to record sounds directly into it, no, otherwise I can achieve that and much more without that box, in the studio with my engineer. But for me myself I would like to either create from the drums in there (as stock) like the Roland tr 8. However I think the TR 6- S might have what I want straight out the box.or the larger variant. My thing is, if I'm paying for a groovebox, it should be pre- built in the hardware as a solid state unit. As that makes it more of an instrument. All of this sampling is good in a sense but I wouldn't need a unit to do it. Whether it's sample based or analogue, as long as I get sounds for what I pay for initially, like the Korg Electribes then I feel at least I've paid for something. As if I then have to add samples I can do that in a package in the studio. But yes the option is appreciated. The only thing again with the Korg Elecribes, ever since they have existed, is that they don't really encompass high definition drums., it's. as if these synth orientated boxes scarifce true drums for electronic adapted drums that's sound that they have no definition of kick. Even the Roland MC 505 for the time was a more complete groove box. But thanks for your help and advice I will check the one you mentioned also.

@@GabeMillerMusic thanks for the recommendation however sadly after a carful watch, the Elektron is only monophonic, just like the Roland Trs and Novation circuits etc are to my knowledge. I don't understand why they do this. Nice units don't get me wrong but ultimately with being monophonic they become more like a toy, without sounding condescending. As it limits the user. I can probably convert it to polyphonic though with a bit of studio magic. But then it pretty much defeats the purpose of me getting a groovebox if I'm going to then adapt everything onto it.

If you want to get into music production for as cheap as humanly possible, a copy of Reaper or MPC Beats, some free plugins, and the cheapest USB midi controller you can find are plenty to get you started. I've got a video vaguely on that topic in the works.
