The veneer or facade approach of putting the finest, most visual stones in front, makes economic and aesthetic sense. Then, filling the unseen middle with construction debris or lower cost common stones.

Could this be adapted to build a concrete-rock foundation/ ,say 6 ft high and one foot thick? These look like cattle panel stock, 1/4 thick galvanized wire@ 6 inch or 4 inch squares .In the US they are 16 feet long. Up to 54 inches high. Rock is cheap here. 14 yards of screening rocks washed $,10-12 per yard, delivered.

What if you have water or drainage problems and slopes? Is it strong enough to hold back the wall?

Great video, how much good stone fits in 300mm voids in 1x1m baskets, like in the video?

Hi Arunas. A 1m x 1m x 0.3m gabion holds 0.3 cubic metres of stone. Check out our price and design page to view stone options: @t

Great, informative video. Lovely summer's day there. Do you need two panels abutting each other? Or rather if you skimp, do you comprimise strength? Are these the 3mm panels on the inside?
@andybeard16996 жыл бұрын
Helicoils are just a quicker way to install the baskets over the lacing wire that's included in the cost. Yes all baskets come with all 6 external sides. We don't supply them with a side missing. We can supply 3mm baskets with a 4mm face panel, saving costs.

Very informative.. if the said wall was 2m high (none retaining) would there need to be strengthening posts inside? Thank you

I need to put in 2 retaining walls to hold back an earth bank and add additional much smaller sides, steps and border edgings. The highest point of the earth to be retained will be 4 feet what would your estimate be on the depth I would require at the base assuming a 2 basket high build. Would digging in the bottom layer make a difference? Finally would you have a view on how this would stack up in terms of costs vis doing the job with posts and railway sleepers? In advance of a response, thanks.
@andrewbeard62136 жыл бұрын
1m deep bottom row. Normally you would dig down and compact a layer of Hardcore for the wall to sit on. please see this page . www.gabionbaskets.co.uk/components/com_finemesh/assets/gabion/C10487-02_revC.pdf Gabion walls last considerably longer than railway sleepers, it depends on where your based and the stone cost. if you can send us an email sales@finemeshmetals.co.uk with your length we can price your job.

How many 1m cubes could you stack safely do you think?
@andybeard16996 жыл бұрын
Is this for a freestanding wall? or a retaining wall? If its retaining the standard designs show how deep the baskets should be. I.e for a 2m high wall the bottom row depth is 1.5m. see www.gabionbaskets.co.uk/gabion/gabion-wall-standard-design
@mrdespondency65986 жыл бұрын
@@andybeard1699 thanks for this, I've found other similar charts and formulas to this. Mine is is for a retaining wall. But if free standing what's deemed a safe stack? Hard to believe anything could topple a 3m by 1m rock filled wall! (One has to trust the structural engineers.) I thought as retainers they were ideal, as pressure was less as they are more free draining. But a 2m deep gabion at the base of a 3m wall seems a little excessive! I'm trying to evaluate cheapest option for chalk shoring - which may be rigid, hard to know until the spade comes out! I guess there are cheaper fill options for unseen baskets.
@andrewbeard62136 жыл бұрын
@@mrdespondency6598 We can only give advice on the standard designs. The depth for freestanding depends on the ground stability. Ive known freestanding walls be supported/strengthened by steel posts concreted into the ground within the baskets. We can quote you for whatever size baskets you request.
