Gabion Raised Gardens

Beautiful raised gardens with Gabion walls surrounding with seating. The Spiral Gardens are unusual and create a focal point in the gravel-scaped back yard landscaping. Each garden provides 15 square feet of growing area utilizing both drip watering and "wick container" watering which can be largely self watering when the garden is established. This is a large scale "wicking system"; that while in its infancy, is performing very well. A banner tomato crop is eagerly anticipated as well as many other vegetables.

What size gadge welded wire mesh did you use and recommend? I’m leaning towards 10 gadge wire is the smallest you can go with. Does that sound about right? Also, where is this located? Here in AZ with 110 degrees I here people saying the rocks will get to hot for the plants to do well. Have you notice this to be a problem?

New Mexico, yes there is solar gain, however plants have done very well. Finding the amount of water needed is the key. The tomato plants love it, we have had a banner 1st crop! I only found 1 gauge of "horse panel" welded wire and I would suspect it is 10 gauge. Pretty heavy stuff, work slowly a helper was very handy while bending.
