That was the best response he gave to the haters. Gabriel sang this and three other songs in the car. In at least two songs he sang while suffering from the flu or was recovering from the flu. This performance in the car is a mix of a spectacular experience with a relaxed interpretation for those who listen. In the studio version he puts his soul into the performance and the result is surreal. It is by far the highest whistle note he has demonstrated to achieve with a captivating and enviable vocal aesthetic. He took ownership of the song so that the music was composed for him, it's impressive (it's my favorite Gabriel cover).

I grew up with the Foreigner version of this song, not popular in Oklahoma but my older brother went through a moment before going country again….I stuck with this kind of music and never went to country in the first place but all of that to say I love Foreigner’s version, and I was okay with Mariah’s version, but then I was back to happy with Gabriel’s version even though it is part Mariah’s version? Ummm, say what, I hope you followed that? 😂 Anywho, when this came out I was like, okay you haters, take this. I then started watching the reactions and people were complaining about the sound quality, missing the point entirely? 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ That last bit is almost startling and he very much made his point. In spite of him singing with the whistles “live” on AGT? 🙄 I actually love his belts, those sustained notes with vibrato at the end are stunning. Okay, you know what is next?!?! Thanks SH! T ✌🏻

Haha well I don't technically have perfect pitch (that's something you're either born with or not, where you can hear a note and know it's e.g. an A or an E etc.) I guess I have something that people like to call 'relative pitch' which can be trained. But yes, it's not nice when a car horn's pitch is as discordant it can be against something else around you

And the fact that he learned to sing just by listening and never took singing lessons or had professional accompaniment makes it all the more surprising.
