I wonder if the confusion about the Chinese theme being in minor or not is because it may be originally written in a different tuning system than the 12-tone Western tuning, so there was no hope of getting the notes exactly right anyway. To my ears she got the right notes from what the first guy sang, but not the second guy's singing.

I wonder if that's why the crowd seemed generally unhappy about it in the first place... I mean they likely knew. As for the guys requesting, I guess they didn't get it... what they were requesting in relation to the somewhat standard ET tuning of a piano.

It's simple. They sang it completely out of tune that's why she would never get the right notes :)
