This song always rang true for me. I was and still am friends with someone who was nothing short of an enigma. She locked everyone out, wore her mask until it became a permanent aspect of her identity. All I know is what she has allowed me and others to see, and whilst I may be one of the few to see glimpses of what's underneath the mask in fleeting moments of happiness, these moments are few and far between. All I know are the few pieces she has allowed me to see, and piecing these together is so difficult. But I know there's so much beauty in her that she keeps locked up, beauty in her carefully crafted words that dance with each poem and beauty in her soul. If only she just let me in.

Guys this is for me the meaning of this song: Ok, so she likes a boy but he is very shy/quiet/socially awkward or whatever, so she thinks he doesn't like her back because he doesn't express himself. "I go to start a conversation but I, get no reply, and you stare just like a statue as I break down and cry". But she says this: "boy i know you have opinions, but you don't let them show." That's when she realizes there is more behind him than his quietness and it doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't like her. She wants him to "let her in", she wants to hear what he thinks about her or how he sees the world. Also "if blood runs through your veins, don't you suppose it's such a waste to be composed in such a way? Just let me in..." , she thinks the way he is mostly quiet , but also "beautiful and bleak" is a waste, because she knows he is beautiful on the inside as well. He has a rich inner world ( blood runs through your veins), but he doesn't show it. She just wants to know what he is thinking, and him to let her in into his inner world (or something like that). I can identify with this song, because I have been quiet almost my whole life, and I know what it is like to feel like if you can't express yourself, or are locked in/hiding under a shell, and not being able to show who you really are on the inside and feel like you are misunderstood :( It's hard for me to make friends right away, so also relationships, and quiet people just need a little more time to trust you I guess. I'm a girl btw.
