This is the first thing a friend who did karate taught me. He didn't even sretch the leg, just a fake with the knee, and then you use the momentum to fall into the oponent with the punch. Used it a couple of times just as a playfight thing with friends and it always works. I am still doing it in kickboxing and sometimes it works against trained fighters.

Having just had a friend wrestling 2 robbers at my front door (he's fine, just a bruised eye, and he gave them nothing), some guys with more experience in the "business" might require more advanced technique. They came with a motorcycle, pressed him to a wall, and tried to grab his phone. He shoved it into his pocket and stood his ground, They tried to control his arms, but he escaped the corner. They came at him with a motorcycle helmet. He parried. They took him to the ground by the hair. He guarded. One of them passed the guard and landed 2 hammerfists. He turned and kicked upwards Karate Combat style. Then they realised their window of opportunity had passed and sped away. 30 seconds later I was there and another 30 seconds later a police car was already alerted. The whole thing lasted 45 seconds. Both had helmets. Each took his turn fighting while the other guarded the bike. They've done it before. They just didn't expect my friend to put up a fight and make it so difficult. In a situation like this a one-two-three might not be the go to solution. :/

Our take from that after analysing the cctv footage was that he should have just run when he disengaged the first time. He could have sprinted to the next block and got help before they could catch him. Tldr: He still got lots of work to do to up his self defence game.

This tip that you gave us is very very good and underated, never use 100% of your power, it is not efficient at all and it makes your speed and technique way worse as well. a perfect punch have good timing, precision and technique, it doesn't require 100% power to knock out someone, putting too much strenth makes it predictable and slow.

If you are going to kick someone in self defense the best target is the nuts. And yes it's very easy to break your hand if you hit someone in the head without a glove on, I've done it multiple times. If you hit anywhere on the head except the jaw hard you'll likely break your hand. It's not as debilitating as some would have you believe though. You can still in fact use your hand even if one of the bones is broken, and if your adrenaline is at full you likely won't even notice it till later. I would try to avoid throwing power punches to the head without a glove unless you have a very clear shot to the jaw, but jabs are no worry. On the subject of jabs, Bruce Lee was onto something with the finger jab. Longer range, more debilitating, and less committed than a normal jab.

Always best to remember the simplest movements for when the adrenaline kicks into overdrive. Front kick doesn't have to be high, so it's safer than the roundhouse, and add two solid punches, it should work.

In one of the first Pinan katas in traditional karate, you have a parry from inside to outside, followed by a front kick to the stomachs and then a straight reverse punch to the jaw. It occurs three or four times in the kata.

6:44 as a Dr i would day... Yes there is a chance you will break your hands because of the srenght of the impact in a solid surface As a martial artist and a doctor:... ... Depends... Usually the ones that train without gloves or wrapping hit less hard because you understand the limits of your hand " i can hit 60-65% even 80% with the proper training ( aligment, strenght, strenghening etc) of my max strengh without protection and will pby be fine, or 100% with protection" thats why there is the "boxers fracture " because people go max power without protection and break their hands.

think that has to do withwhere your hips are when kicking (for me atleast) like when the hips are sitting right above the suppor leg , i get pushed backwards , but when the hips are between the kicking and the supporting legs i can push the target easier.
@paulpelle3046
@paulpelle3046 Жыл бұрын
@@imaddjilali7610 that’s a fair observation bro.👌 I think the issue is more to do with adequate weight transfer, and stability: - hips extended/driven forward will transfer much greater weight into the kick...therefore making it much less likely for the kicker to be pushed back. - Also, the foot position of the posting leg is very important: diagonal or even horizontal provides way more traction...as well as enabling the hips to open more to drive forward through the target. 🎯🙏

Well said Mike. I agree totally I have a couple sense to add in though. 2:32 Yes 👏🏾🤓 the boot to lower side center mass or at the legs drops the average person’s hands in response for that matter targeting the leg can cause a lot of trained people to reach down in some way. Also the cross punch out of any kick from your power/back leg can be a perfect follow up. The hook, overhand punch as well as the uppercut though in far fewer circumstances and all elbows (crossing, upward, hooking and overhand) from the same side as your kicking leg also work great as a change up from the normal left, right, left rhythm that dominates in combat sport scenarios. The kick can also allow you to really put your weight into any attack off the same side and even just a shoulder check to create distance can be great if you get very comfortable and aware of the many nuances to throwing your weight into what I like to call the “front step kick” so as not to be confused with a step or stepping front kick. The same thing applies to side and back kicks as well, so side step kick from side stance, and back step kick for any time you end up with your back to an opponent at kick range which can be much closer with the back kick it is most effective if you use it as a push off to go air born away from the target. If you train for it the push off can also be followed by a number of kicks with the other leg. The punches off the back kick and to some degree the sidekick are limited by flexibility in hips and shoulders though. 7:37 I would always suggest 50-75% force output for 80-90% of any combat encounter (during sparring bring down to 10-25% and only bump it to a max of maybe 35-50% for safer techniques that you are very comfortable with, with those you are very comfortable with) unless you’re fighting for your life against multiple attackers who are armed. Then I would say you’d want to switch it to 80-90% of your power 50-75% of the encounter. In training and in encounters using 100% of your speed in a range between 25-90% of your movements and consistently vary your pace relative to your opponent. Makes you a truly dynamic force to deal with when you do turn everything on high for just a moment. The pace variability creates a constantly broken disconnected rhythm become natural to you. It pretty much never is to others. Accept maybe dancers and high level masters of some athletic pursuit.
